Groose sat alone at the table.

There was a stain on Link’s placemat from the last time they tried to cook together. Zelda’s journal was lying open, pencil skewed across the page. She’d left in a hurry, rushed off as soon as she formulated her plan.

Anger bubbled beneath his skin. He wished it would erupt. It was better than the burning sense of betrayal, and the tears slowly dripping onto his plate.

He wondered if they could move past this. He wondered if he wanted to.

After all, what was a mere man to the Goddess and her Chosen?
