Summary:

Under the influence of a mind control drug while in the captivity of a man desperate to initiate some sort of romantic relationship with him, Tim struggles to fight his captor to little avail. After his captor finally reveals the details to a plan to sell the mind control drug, Tim fights to stop him, only to discover there are reasons his captor has been on the run, desperate to avoid detection. Reason. A man that Tim’s captor may not be able to keep himself — or Tim — safe from.

[Video Description: An animatic to the song 'Mean Mean Man' by Blair Crimmins and the Hookers. In it, the fanbot Hare Becile mocks his rival, Rabbit, along with The Spine and Zer0 (Zero) before climbing onto a bridge. There is an imaginary sequence of Hare pickpocketing, then having his money taken by The Skull. Hare then notices a portrait of Thadeus Becile watching him and is disturbed. In the present action, Hare tears down a Steam Powered Giraffe poster, balls it up, and throws it at Rabbit before descending from the bridge. The Jack pops out of a trashcan, accompanied by several tiny copper elephants that begin to dance. Rabbit tries to eat one of them, despite The Spine trying to stop her. Hare dances the Charleston with the copper elephants before kicking them away and climbing a nearby building. He trips and disappears from the roof, then reappears in the doorway with a top hat (on top of his regular hat) and cane. He dances down the stairs, then throws the top hat at the viewer. The scene transitions to Hare lounging, implying the whole thing was a daydream. He grins smugly at the camera. End VD]

I heard him before I saw him.

Objectively, one might argue that allowing a stranger to more or less lure me out of the city and away from potential witnesses was a bad idea. A blindingly stupid idea. But the instinct to trust this man was undeniable, and the promise of finding Jamie so soon was a temptation I couldn’t resist.

Being on horseback made conversation difficult, so my multitude of questions would have to wait until we stopped, and to my surprise, the ride was blessedly short. However, there were no visible structures or people in the vicinity, and for one brief moment, I wondered at the soundness of my own judgment. But then…

“You’re back sooner than I expected, a goistidh,” a disembodied voice called out.

I slid off my horse without conscious thought as my pulse took off in a sprint, and the air seemed to grow thin as I caught movement in the trees and saw a man emerge. A familiar mop of red hair crowned a handsome face and towering frame. Though his appearance had always been a bit tidier in my dreams, the well-worn state of his clothing barely registered.

It was his eyes that held me captive, brilliant blue and wide with shock and recognition. Silence stretched between us for one infinite moment, and just when I thought I might be able to get a hold on myself… he spoke.

And everything changed.
