HAPPY EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY TO STEAM POWERED GIRAFFE
I don’t think people understand just HOW important it is to me that Zer0 is a Barbarin
I mean, I could FEEL in my bones first time I heard his music (specifically Lyin’ Awake) that he was Southern. Then, I talked to him in Iowa last year and he confirmed. On the way back I learned he is Brian Barbarin. I CANNOT STATE ENOUGH!!!!! How much of music royalty the Barbarins are. At least to me, BUT THEY SHOULD BE TO YOU TOO!!!!! The whole family has been in famous jazz bands and other projects like The Onward Brass Band or the Four Tones. One of the Barbarins also wrote two of the most famous southern music pieces. Adolphe Barbarin wrote The Second Line and Bourbon Street Parade. You cannot EXIST in New Orleans or any Mardis Gras adjacent celebrations without hearing these pieces. They are, at least to me, two of the best jazz pieces -like- ever. And the family is in all sorts of musical genres, but funk and jazz remain my favorites of theirs.
Do you underst- DO YOU UNDERSTAND????? Just how amazing this is?????? NOLA is one of my favorite places in the whole world (honestly it may be my favorite in general but that is a whole other conversation). And the music is part of this! When southern music is represented even slightly in ways other than country, my soul freaking SOARS! And I enjoy country too! But to have bluegrass, funk, jazz, rural, blues, folk, just ANYTHING represented makes me feel like someone cares about where I’m from in a way that isn’t in a negative way. This is part of the reason I love The Jon’s music as well because I can FEEL the inspiration despite him being from California. It almost makes tears come to my eyes. I know Zer0 isn’t a lot of people’s favorite bot (and I don’t have a favorite personally but 🤷🏼♀️) but Zer0 and his contributions have made me so unbelievably happy and I don’t think people talk about him enough.
aomebody posted this on the cav and
what the actual hell is happening 😭
I’m gonna be honest, I am still in complete shock about Isabella stepping away from the band. Like, for eighteen years, her and David have been like the core members who never switch out, and then they announce she needs to step away.
That news is devastating and shocking to a lot of fans, myself included. Rabbit has been such an iconic character to see and I love watching Bunny portray her. Bunny has made me feel a lot more comfortable being a trans person who wants to perform and make music despite my fear.
That being said. I wish only the best for Bunny, she’s a sweet and funny woman and I do not want her mental health worsening because of tours and performances with the band. Her mental health and everyone’s mental health should always come first and I’m so happy and proud of her for making the decision to step back and retire her character. I want her to be able to heal and work through her struggles in the way she needs and as a performer, it cannot be easy to walk away with so many eyes and people looking up to you. I wish her and the rest of the band only the best.
To find the silver lining in the sad news, I’m happy to see Sam Luke make a return to the band, they’re amazing. Hatchworth is an entertaining character with some killer vocals and I hope to see clips of him interacting with Zer0! I’m glad the band was able to make the switch as painless as possible, and being able to find a solution for a major switch is amazing, I’m happy for them.
This band means a lot to me, and while I am extremely sad to see Bunny step back, I’m really happy to see Hatchworth come back to the spotlight. I’m excited to see the band continue to grow and continue forward. Rabbit will always have a spot in my heart and I can’t express how much joy she brings me. I love the band and their characters and how they always bring joy and good music to each of their shows.
