hi! do you have any favorite fiction novels? / which novels would you recommend?
i love feminist sci-fi, especially anything by octavia butler! she is my favorite. the parable series (parable of the sower, talents, etc) is a favorite, but honestly everything she wrote was AWESOME. in that vein, marge piercy also wrote a couple of good novels (he, she, and it & woman on the edge of time). in terms of non (explicitly) feminist sci-fi, the night watch series is AWESOME, as is the fourth realm series by john twelve hawks.
out of sci-fi, i love dorothy allison. cavedweller is a favorite of mine, though obviously a lot of DA is autobiographical, so. hm. i really enjoy kurt vonnegut as well, some more than others. i return again and again to cat’s cradle, player piano, and sirens of titan.
i read a ton of YA fiction as well, and really enjoy all of rick riordan’s series (i’ve always loved ancient myths and gods/goddesses, so that makes sense). i also love lois duncan (old school!) and the anne of green gables series and books about spunky girls who get into scrapes.
i pick out a lot of books by just going and grabbing from the shelf and reading 2-3 parts at random. if i like the voice or feel pulled in, i am usually pleased with my choice.
also i am generally terrible at reccing books because of this! so i’ve read some great ones that were random picks that i now can’t remember.
hope you don’t mind my publishing this. i had to google to remember some titles and this will serve as a handy reference post for me :)
