"every dog breed should be allowed to come in every color" is a bad take and i'm tired of seeing it :/
certain colors in certain breeds are directly linked to traits that negatively impact either health or function or both. dilute individuals in many breeds develop alopecia. any hair loss and an increased risk of skin infection make it difficult (if not outright risky) for most dogs to perform their purpose, be it retrieving or herding or hunting or guarding. in breeds such as poodles and pulis, dogs that aren't solid black or brown have inherently softer coats, why is why they are commonly either breed separately, faulted, or DQ'd. retrievers won't dry quickly after swimming if their fur doesn't repel water, and herding dogs could get caught on vegetation and/or pick up debris that impedes their movement thus losing control over their flock or herd.
should more breeds include a wider variety of colors, especially breeds that lack genetic diversity? yeah, probably. idk if it's not a breed that i am involved in then that's not my call to make. but the idea that specific coat colors were excluded only because of aesthetic or superstition or whatever is just wrong most of the time. give breeders from the early 1900s and earlier some credit — just because they didn't have access to health testing doesn't mean that they didn't use the tools and information they DID have to create functional, healthy dogs. standards were written a certain way for a reason. before you get fired up about changing them, find out WHY they are the way they are in the first place.
