This goof has been doing well on his reactivity training. Now that he has workable thresholds with dogs and people, I’ve begun working on focusing skills during low to mid-distractions. I’ve stopped using his kibble for that because it doesn’t have high enough value for his focus to be where I would like, so training treats it is.

Yesterday’s session was excellent. People were walking by and there were dogs playing across the street in a dog park and a kid chasing her father around and screaming. Despite being apprehensive, he kept his focus on me and I couldn’t be prouder. I kept it short so he wouldn’t get too worked up. Baby steps!

This piece of shit just counter surfed and ate my roommate’s sausage. She was kind enough not to read him his rites. Like I get it, but where’s that self-control we’ve been working on? No more kitchen privileges for you, bud

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. Regis is 2 (3 in four months!) and we are finally done with apartment life and I finished college. He’s thriving with a yard and daily off leash walks and his cousin (my parents’ little hound dog).

His reactivity is sooooooo much better now that I’ve figured out what works (and I may discuss that journey in a separate post). I trust him more and he’s getting much more social with people after a proper introduction.

A lot has changed and overall it’s been a hell of a journey and we still have a ways to go. But I’ve learned to trust him and he me.

Both of us are back from vacation! He had a blast at my parents’ and they did not want him to leave! I’m happy to have my boy back and first thing on the list was bathtime. Drying him took some time, though 😂

A lovely post bath snooze after nearly taking my finger off while getting the zoomies and reaching the end of his long line unexpectedly. It’s been a big day!

Now that it’s warm and my boy is a year it’s time to start conditioning our bodies! I’ve always wanted a jogging/hiking partner and now it’s time! I’m hoping that increased exercise (and by extension training time) will help with Regis’s reactivity. It’s hard to be pissed when you’re tired, you know?
