Book 53 of the 50 book challenge. Master Presidential History by Dan Roberts. The book is taken from the author’s students essays as well as essays he wrote about each president from Washington to the Current Occupant. It is really interesting if you’d like to know more about each President and how awful or not they were. It’s a good book.

I just listened to animorphs 53 and that was,,, brutal

Jake goes on a couple slightly unhinged rants in this one and macleod andrews was really selling it. Like our boy is losing it holy shit

Actually the way this book is written is fascinating because Jake is like simultaneously the most focused he’s ever been but also the most unhinged. Like he is a laserbeam of effectiveness, he sees the bright clear line and will follow it to the bitter end, and he is also so clearly destroying himself with each step along that path.

“Look, if we lose this battle it’s over, you understand me?!” I raised my voice to be heard by everyone. “If we lose it’s over. This is the battle. This is the last stand. We lose and here’s what happens: The Yeerk fleet fights the Andalite fleet. If the Yeerks win they’ll be free to enslave every living human being and kill the ones they don’t want. If the Andalites win there’s a very good chance they’ll sterilize Earth: kill everything in order to end the Yeerk menace once and for all. So, you don’t like me telling you what to do, you don’t like your job, you don’t like me, period? I don’t really care. Before this night is over the casualties will be piled high and some of you standing here right now will be dead and I don’t care because we are going to win. Is that clear? We’re taking that Pool ship and before this night is over we’ll have Visser One right here.” I held up my tight-clenched fist.

I was ranting. I was trembling. I’d never done this before. Never put myself forward as some kind of Napoleon wannabe. I felt like a jerk. Like some kind of nut. My friends must have thought I’d lost my mind. But no one said so.

No one but Marco. “You know, you’re turning into Rachel.” He frowned. “Where is she, anyway?”

Where indeed…

Reminds me of what Rachel said way back in book #17: “Even I have enough sense to know the words ‘we have to win’ are the first four steps on the road to hell.”

I haven't been able to read the last few days and I'M SO CLOSE TO THE END IT'S TORTURE. I usually don't read at work but I was desperate but now Jake is putting plans in motion and I'm almost finished the second to last book AND I HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK. WHY DIDN'T I WAIT 😭😭😭😭

Three years! I was right. I think that'd've had more sway in convincing the parents when they had all their protests. Like, shut up mum I've been doing this for three years, I know what I'm doing.

Book 53 of the 50 book challenge. Miss Burma by Charmaine Craig. This is a historical fiction novel set in Burma from the 1920’s until the mid 1960’s. The author’s mother and grandparents are the characters in the novel. Her grandfather was born in Burma and was Jewish, her grandmother was Karen, a member of a ethnic group inside Burma. It deals with the Japanese invasion and after the war, when the Burmans, the ethnic group that was the majority took over. It’s a fascinating book and very good. I highly recommend reading it.

Book 53 of the 50 book challenge. Rather Die Fighting by Frank Blaichman. It’s a memoir of a jewish partisan who fought in Poland during WW II against the Germans. It’s a great book and gives a new perspective on what people were doing during the war. I highly recommend it. The author survived in forests and from the kindness of others.

A look at the French translation of Animorphs (Book 53)

It's actually Book 47 in French, coming right after The Deception. The translation skipped an entire narration cycle, and Book 47 to 52 were never published in French.

The title The Answer was changed to Final Mission, which is appropriate I guess.

The translator is Claude Marie, who didn't translate any other Animorphs books.

Marco calling Jake "Big Jake" is not translated.

All the references to the Auxiliary Animorphs are absent in French. It's a plotline that's never mentioned. I guess that caused too much of a continuity issue, so they just decided to completely remove it. The translator worked around it as best he could. For example, James' lines go to Toby when they're discussing their plan in the valley.

Rachel saying "This is my girl !" to Toby when she suggests stealing the Pool ship becomes "That's a great idea ! Go girls !"

The soldier who tried shooting Jake only to be stopped by James diseappears completely.

Jake talking about the American Civil War and how its players realized warfare was no longer about chilvary and honor is erased.

Instead of telling Jake his face will be carved into Mount Rushmore, Tom's Yeerk says his face will be in all the history books.

Erek saying he survived the Huns becomes "I survived World War II".

The scene where the Auxiliary Animorphs are slaughtered is modified so it becomes just about the soldiers. Visser One is still gleefully enjoying the massacre though, which doesn't make much sense.
