Mid-Year Book Freakout
Thanks for the tag, @cha-melodius and the open tag, @caterpills!
Number of books you've read so far: 16! I'm not reading as much as I could be, but I'm also writing a ton, and still reading fic and betaing, so I'm very happy with that number. (Also, please add me on Storygraph if you haven't yet. 😁)
Best book you've read so far in 2025: When the Tides Held the Moon by @vkelleyart, but I will admit it's close! (I also absolutely loved Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune.) Tides was just so captivating, the format was unique, and the artwork was stunning. 😍
Best sequel you've read so far in 2025: I'm currently reading Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune and I'm really enjoying it so far! Also, this was technically a prequel, but considering it's the fifth to come out in the series, I'm giving honorary kudos to Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins. It absolutely tore my heart out, but I loved the story.
New release you haven't read yet but want to: A couple months ago, I picked up a signed copy of One Day Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad. I've definitely needed a lot of escape this year, but I'm thinking I'll be reading this one soon.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: Idk! I don't have anything on my wish list or TBR that isn't out yet. I'm very much looking forward to TJ Klune's next book, which is slated for next April.
Biggest surprise favorite new author (debut or new to you): I read This is Why They Hate Us by Aaron H. Aceves at the beginning of the year, and I knew it had good reviews, but man, that book absolutely blindsided me with emotions. How I related so deeply to a male character more than two decades younger than me, I'm not sure, but I cried, I laughed, I felt SO many things. I'll be re-reading that one for sure. 💕
Newest fictional crush: Kit from The Pairing! A sexy, romantic Frenchman who makes pastries??! Be still my heart.
Book that made you cry: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow.... fucking ripped my heart out. But I think I've cried during every book I've read this year. 😂
Most beautiful book you've gotten so far this year: When the Tides Held the Moon, it's one of the most beautiful books I own.
Book that made you happy: A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman... it gave me hope.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year? I have two books I need to read by the end of the month for book clubs I'm attending, but that's about it. I have The Invisible Life of Addie Larue and In Five Years up next.
Tagging: Some of my reading buddies! But please also take this open tag if you want it. @blueeyedgrlwrites @myheartalivewrites @absoluteaudacitywrites @theprinceandagcd @whimsymanaged
