Get To Know You Ask

I was tagged by the lovely @spines-spells​ to do this, which was such a lovely surprise for when I came home from work!

What’s your dream job? I know I should say nursing because it’s a job that requires a calling, but honestly, I think my dream job would be to run my own bookstore/coffee shop. I would just love to be surrounded by books every day and be able to discuss them with people who love them as much as me.

What are you talented at? I’m really good at taking care of people. I grew up helping my mom take care of my disabled brother and then I went into the business of taking care of folks. Despite not wanting to have kids, I have a pretty mothering personality. lol

What’s your aesthetic? A hot cup of coffee, an overstuffed chair, a cozy blanket, a nice book, and a quiet space. 

What is a big goal you’re working towards? I’m trying to pay all my debt down. Between a huge school loan, a brand new car, and credit card debt, I’ve got a long ways to go. Plus, the boyfriend and I are wanting to actually buy our own house instead of throwing away money on rent of a house that we can’t really make our own.

What’s a topic you’re always up to talk about? Books! Tumblr/booklr drama, anything nursing/medical related, and whatever just catches my interest at the time.

What is a pet peeve of yours? Interrupting me. I hate it so damn much! UGH! There’s a few people I work with that consistently do this when I’m trying to give report and it’s so frustrating!! That and my boyfriend has severe ADHD so he’s constantly interrupting my reading by holding out his phone and going “BABY LOOK AT THIS!”

Good advice to give? ‘If it’s not going to affect you in 5 years then don’t spend 5 minutes on it.’ I’m a huge worrier. I worry about everything; what people think, what people say, what I did/didn’t say, etc. I worry a lot. And after I saw this saying on some inspirational picture of a mountain or lake or whatever, I really try to keep it in mind to help keep me calm and to not hyperfocus on things that aren’t really important. 

Recommend three books: 

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Honestly, I cannot gush enough about this book. I know it’s super popular with the booklr crowd but with good reason! It’s got excellent representation of marginalized groups, an amazing plotline, even better writing, and it is honestly one of the better reads that I’ve been introduced to through this site. 

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufmen. It reminded me so much of Battlestar Galactica and I LOVE that show so much.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. OMG ALL THE FEELS! I will buy anything Laini puts out now because her writing is just sublime. Her world building gives me serious heart eyes.

Hey! Hey! Just wanted to send in an ask to say hi and that I love your OC/self insert Heiki so much!!

I’m pretty new to the whole self-shipping thing but I loved reading through all the voicelines you wrote for her and seeing the artwork you did (your art’s amazing btw)

I came with a few questions and Heiki, feel free to answer at your leisure.

It seems from her lines that she drinks both coffee and tea. How does she take her coffee? What is her favorite blend of tea?

Her cat Yang, what kind of cat do you imagine it is? That is to say, what do you think it looks like?

This can be a hard one to describe but fun to think about what! What do you think Heiki’s voice sounds like?

Alright, final question because this ask is getting long and I apologize I am known to both ramble and inquire in large amounts. What do you imagine Heiki and Lohen’s first meeting was like? Was she initially drawn to him? Or did she have to warm up to him and his……unique personality?

hi kat! thank you for stopping by! 💕 i'm glad you enjoyed my art and writing! i'm actually planning on redoing heike's voicelines and character stories! the overall sentiment should all be the same, but as i've written her more i've gotten a better grasp on how i want to write her. still, i'm super happy you enjoyed it!

-heike likes coffee with lots of flavors in it-- she tries drinking black coffee now and then and always winds up gagging from how bitter it is. she wouldn't have one of those insane starbucks orders that takes a full minute to recite, but she's still gonna have to write it down if someone's going to be getting it for her (with some probably obvious exceptions, lol). as for tea, she likes green teas best, especially jasmine! she also really enjoys matcha, since she drank quite a bit of it while she was staying in inazuma.

-yang is a fluffy furball of a black cat! she looks quite a bit bigger than she actually is because of all that fur. i thought it would be cute to give her a name that better suited her personality and relationship with heike than what you'd go by based on her color and gender,,, she's sweet and warm and really helped heike start to feel better about life and what was ahead!

-heike's voice is a little hard for me to pin down, since i tend to imagine my own voice for her rather often...! i suppose the way i'd describe it would be sort of soft, but more in the sense of texture than volume. she has a tendency to let her real emotions show through her voice very easily, even if she's hiding them otherwise quite well. (this has spooked people before...!) she's picked up a lot of ways of speaking from people she's close to, if just in the way she expresses things... so i suppose combine diona's attitude, mizuki's warmth and pacing, lohen's general expressiveness, and more than a little bit of dottore's yappertron behavior, and you've got a good start...!

(bonus fun little thing: i like describing heike's more mischievous laugh as sounding like a chattering cat!)

-i actually just thought of a possible way they met yesterday that had me rolling ngl LKFAJKSLDF they've known one another for a very long time...! they really bonded because they were both the Weird Kid Who Will Not Be Diagnosed For At Least A Decade. he liked how sweet and warm she always was, even when she started struggling, and he always defended her when people tried to bully her, which meant the world to her. as for their actual first meeting... i imagined it being a casual sort of "this is lohen, he just moved here, his parents are friends with granny renate too" exchange, but they really started interacting a little while after then. heike was bored playing by herself while the other children were playing a game, and lohen showed up with his bow... which, of course, didn't have arrows, so he was using sticks instead. he assumed she was playing and tried to spook her into telling him where the others were, and she, instead of responding accordingly, told him his aim was shit. he tried to argue with her on that, and she argued that no, she's seen uncle draff shoot his bow a million times so she knows his stance is bad and his aim is bad! lohen then let one of the sticks he was "aiming" go. it missed, so heike started laughing... and then it fell and bonked her on the head, so he started laughing. and... from that moment they were besties!

please don't worry about asking too many questions or yapping-- i do both of those things too! it made me super happy to see you were so curious about her, thank you so much!!

I love Venti sm, his part especially broke me.

it’s okay!! i love reading everyone’s messages!! and im SO GLAD you loved venti’s part because im especially proud of that one because i feel like out of everyone, i wrote venti’s as the most heartbreaking bc out of all the other charas, he’s the only one who directly chose to sacrifice the reader for the world. and i think i managed to convey it quite well on there!
