Hi friends! I'm Lex. I'm 32, biracial Latine (though, for the most part, white passing) queer, disabled, neurodivergent, and tired as hell. I got back into reading at the end of January (2024) and I couldn't be happier! Prior to 2024, I'd only read one book over six years.

Random questions:

What do you read?

Predominantly Adult/some YA speculative fiction, with a focus on queer, poc, and disabled stories. Lots of poetry, some nonfiction, and a little contemporary lit. My all-time favorite subgenre is urban fantasy, and I have a special place in my heart for circus-themed fiction. Sci-fi has climbed surprisingly high on my fave genres list (especially sci-fantasy and sci-horror).

Oh, and I guess I read romance now - sparingly. Mostly contemporary speculative romance and sentient object romance :)

What type of reader are you?

Mood reader. I'm always reading like 5 books at a time, which means I take forever to actually finish a book. It also means I tend to finish multiple books at once.

Do you write book reviews?

I haven't in a while but I'm hoping to start soon.

What else do you do?

I'm also a writer, and I have a writeblr here if you'd like to check it out. I make music, do witchcraft, make art (lots of soft pastels, collaging, and jewelry making), pretty much anything creative that can help life be a little less overwhelming.

Will you post discourse in the book community?

Not so much "discourse." More like "things that are important to discuss and call out." This is not a turn your brain off and just enjoy reading kind of blog. I have ADHD; My brain never turns off.

What should I know before following:

I block HP fans. I have little to no tolerance for SJM, Colleen Hover, Tswift. This is a Pro-Palestine, BLM, trans-loving blog. Antisemitism will not be tolerated. I will be using my practically non-existent platform to reblog resources and awareness on social issues.

About me:

I'm 23 and a grad student

I was born in Italy and that takes up about 50% of my personality

I'm bisexual, which is the other 50% of my personality

My rating system:

★★★★★ - Either an instant addition to my favorites or an incredibly well written book, with stellar prose, intricate world building, and well-developed characters.

★★★★☆ - A very enjoyable novel which lacked the extra spark or had a few issues regarding the content or execution.

★★★☆☆ - A book which I liked and disliked in equal measure, leaving me very much on the fence. While it had praiseworthy elements, some aspect of it was lackluster enough to cancel out my enjoyment.

★★☆☆☆ - The negative parts of this book completely overshadowed any enjoyable parts.

★☆☆☆☆ - I reserve one-star ratings for books with exceptionally poor writing or blatantly problematic content. These novels took away all of the enjoyment of reading and took all my will-power to get through.

tanda soal: a booklr introduction

Hi everyone! I'm a 21-year-old from Malaysia and I go to uni in the US (starting sophomore year in fall). I'm majoring in Economics and maybe possibly double-majoring in English and minoring in Education.

WHAT'S TANDA SOAL

It's Malay for question mark! It represents the questions and answers I'd like to explore through the books I read. I really enjoy reading as a way of learning more about different cultures, history, life in general. This year I decided to write those reflections to share with other people. I'm admittedly not the best at reading consistently and frequently throughout my semester, so it never made sense before. But since the pandemic added some months to my summer, I thought now would be the best time to get started on my passion project! I also taught myself how to use Adobe Illustrator recently and so some digital art will be finding its way here too :)

INTERESTS

I tend to favour contemporary stuff, though I do love me some thought-provoking non-fiction. These days, I’m trying to read more diversely. I realise that most authors I’ve read in the past tend to be male and from the western world, despite having lived in Malaysia most of my life. So do send me your recommendations!! I’d love to check them out.

Always looking forward to connect with more people and make some friends here! Can’t wait to talk about some literature (or economics, public policy, education, zero waste living, film photography, travelling, cats, BTS, Naruto - I’m flexible ;))

I have been here a while, but I figured its time for me to make an official entrance to the booklr & studyblr communities 

My name is Hannah 

I am 21 years old  

I am from Wales, UK. 

I am studying a degree in Health and Social Care and hope to put this degree towards a Nursing Career or Social Work Career 

I am in many fandoms including: Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, TFIOS 

My favourite Author is Cecilia Ahern, and my favourite book by her Is Where Rainbows End 

I love anything to do with space and science 

I am still studying towards my maths GCSE... Getting there... painfully slowly 

I AM A PROUD HUFFLEPUFF 

I am a self confessed stationery addict 

I work full time (40hrs) whilst studying my degree so my posts will usually be in the morning or evenings, sometimes on weekends. I’m hoping to get a schedule going of when I will post something, but I haven't got that far yet.

Katty, how frequently do you think you’ll post here?

Not sure. The last few years have been quite hectic for me, so my reading has been somewhat sporadic. I don’t really know what kinda rhythm I’ll end up having, so can’t promise I’ll post often.

I really love reading though… but even if I read a lot, I admittedly sometimes struggle to actually review things (at least, without spoilers-) so even then idk.

Katty, what kinds of things do you read?

Literally anything if it interests me enough.

Honestly an easier question to answer would be “what DON’T you read?” lol

However I do read a lot of Manga and Graphic Novels, or at least it will likely appear that way since I can finish those or even multiple of them in one day (I am… very quick when it comes to reading things with pictures- I do not know why but I assume there is likely a reason haha).

But I will delve into practicality any genre, from practically any age demographic, written in practically any format.

The only things I don’t frequently read are romance novels (though I do read manga and graphic novels from the genre, and prefer the genre when it comes to fanfiction) since I tend to have trouble finding ones that sound interesting to me. But I want to get more into the genre if I can.

Also I read classics really slow because I find the writing style is harder for me to focus on (so many commas…), even though I still can and do enjoy them. So I probably won’t post about classics that much, but I do like them!

And I don’t read non-fiction that often, but I’m hoping to get more into it at least for learning purposes! (That goes for all non-fiction. Memoirs/biographies, informational books, etc…)

Other than that though my shelf is stuffed~

Katty, what are your favourite genres?

As I said, I like pretty much anything, but favourite wise, generally;

-Mystery (especially cozy mysteries! I’ve been reading those since I was little and was called weird and old for it all the time =D)

-Thriller (THRILL ME)

-Horror (I LOVE ALL HORROR GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE- (probably my favourite genre of all time tbh, but I’m indecisive so idk for sure)

-Fantasy (though they do tend to be longer so I haven’t had much time for them lately, sadly.

-Not a genre, but I do read TONS of Manga so I feel like that’s worth mentioning here

I have no idea! I don’t think I even have one! =D
