Just One Word Book Photo Challenge: February 3: Placekeeper

This box is a little bittersweet. Bookly box has made some huge changes and they will be sending hardcover books next month. However, to do so they had to get rid of a couple of their boxes, and one of the boxes that they are getting rid of is the children’s box. This will be the last Children’s box unboxing. Let’s get started.

I was really happy to see that we were helping a country that I could pronounce its name and relativity knew where it was located. This month we were helping those in Liberia. Some of the facts that were given were really surprising like schools being shut down due to the Ebola virus. It was also interesting to see that less than 1/2 of the country is literate. I also found it interesting that unlike the other two cards, this card has a caution triangle on.

After I took the bag out of the box, I grabbed my two tea bags from the book bag. This month I got Calm Chamomile and Sweet Cinnamon Spice. I am just continuing on with my tea bag collection.

The next few items that I took out were promotional. We got the bookmark, which the theme of the bookmark was cool. I really did like the quote. I also got a 20% off on Accessories from Bookly Box. However, I am not sure if you would be able to use the code since it requires you to log onto their website platform. If you can, here you go.

The next two items that I pulled out of the bag were the fun items. The first item that I pulled was the stretchable bookmark that has the finger pointing to where you are reading. I tried to use this bookmark with the paperback, and it kind of destroyed the book, it is an item that works with only hardcover books. the next item we got was a USB light. I was a bit confused as to why we were getting another light so soon after receiving the booklight in the August box. However, this light does work very well and I have used it as a light for my laptop’s keyboard. The only complaint that I have is that you cannot change the bulb of the light. I was also not thrilled with the color choice, but I decided that functionality needed to win.

The last item that I took out of the bookbag was the book. This month we got The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke. The premise of the book is a young girl who discovered that she is a mutant that can live in the sea, thanks to a government project, allowing her to live underwater and to communicate with dolphins. Since finding out about the project her and a group of other mutants now have to discover this underground city before a group of people take them away and experiment on them. This book seems really interesting, and I cannot wait to start reading this book next month.

As a whole with the subscription, I have been impressed. I will admit that it is different than Owlcrate and it does take a bit to get use to. I do feel as though Bookly Boxes bookish items are more pratical than Owlcrates. Owlcrate tends to have bookish wear and nicknacks while Bookly Box has items to help you critically think and understand the book that they gave you. Unlike Owlcrate, in wich they give you hardcovers of the most anticipated books, Bookly box does support more of your unknown authors. I am not sure what is going to happen with the update, but there is talk of them switching from paperback to hardcover. I will admit that I was dissapoitned at first when I recieved a paperback book, but now I am perfecty okay with it, and I do not care that it is paperback. I will also admit that I am perfectly happy that this bookish subsription box is a charitable box, and they do work with Books for Africa to help bring more books into those improvish areas. They do keep a tally mark on how many books they help raised to be sent to that area.

The one thing that I am a bit upset about is the big update. With this big update they did get rid of the children’s box, as well as raising the subscription price by about $5.00. In the end, with out the discount, the supsription is more than Owlcrate, $33.99 plus shipping. Right now they are having a sale and the box is 26.99. With the 10% discount (not the sale) it is $30.60 plus the shipping (which comes to about $36.60). Owlcrate is $30.00 plus the shipping.

That is my take on the Bookly Box subscription.I am not sure what my plans are for next moth, I do want to see the big update change, so that means I have to pick another genre and I am having a hard time choosing between Scifi and Fantasy. We will see next month in my decision.

In case I do not make anther post, I do want to wish everyone a fun and safe Halloween. Things have been a bit crazy at home with my grandma being under hospice care, and balancing three jobs. I hae just been under a lot of emotional stress. Part of me just wants to take a day off and get away from it all. These subscription boxes, as well as talking to all of you have brought in some light in some emotional tuberulant times. I just want to thank you for everything.

I am happy that I am finally getting another review done. It is taking me a while to do so, but at least I am getting there. The book that I am reviewing is Thirteen by Tom Hoyle. Alright. I know it is quite soon for another unboxing, but I am behind on my posts, and I wanted to take the time to catch up. Though the book How To Hang a Witch is nearby and tempting me as well as the Alexander Hamilton Soundtrack. Let us move on to the unboxing.

The first thing that I saw when I opened the box was the card of who we were helping and the Bookly Box Bag. This month we are helping those in Beitbridge, Zimbabwe get books and a public library.

This month, I enjoyed our fun bookish items. For this month we received a notebook and a pen. What was great was that it was another quill pen, but in a different color. I was thinking of getting another one, but getting one in this box was great, and I do like the color choice. I feel as though the black pen will not get as dirty as the white one.

Of course, we got the standard bookmark. I do like the quote, but I am not sure if it is a theme for this month, or if it was just chosen to be placed on a bookmark. The quote does not match the book. It is still a great quote. It states, “Think before you speak. Read before you think.”

The box also comes with two tea bags. Not being a tea drinker I need to come up with a plan on what I am going to do with these tea bags. Maybe I will bring them to work and try them out then.

The last item was the book. This month we got Archie Wilson and the Nuckelavee. I will be posting a review of the book soon. The one thing that I will remark is that I do love the binding of this book. I feel as though all paperbacks should be bound up like this.

I will admit that I enjoyed the bookish items more than the book. I do appreciate that Bookly Box gives out a variety of books and giving the unknown authors a chance to shine.

Bookly Unboxing – September 2016 Alright. I know it is quite soon for another unboxing, but I am behind on my posts, and I wanted to take the time to catch up.

I wanted to try another bookish box to see what others are like. This box is the Bookly Box. In this box, you get the book, a book bag, two bags of tea, and a couple of bookish items to help you read. In addition to these items, you will also be linked to a community to talk about the items you receive, and a chance to help those around the world receive a book of their own. That idea of helping those around the world did sell the box.  The box is 29.99 with a 5.99 shipping which comes to 28.98 a month. Unlike other subscription boxes, they do not have multiple box deals, it is a month to month subscription. However, they do have different genre boxes. I chose the children’s (7 to 14) box.  Let’s get started.

The first thing that I will show you is what I saw when I first opened up the box. In it, you will see the card on which area we are helping out this month as well as the book bag. This month Bookly Box is partnering up with Books For Africa in sending books to the Western Equatoria State.

I then decided to take close up pictures of the card and the information provided to us. I am not sure which book they sent there. That is the only complaint that I have. I am very curious as to which book(s) they sent to that part of the world. I did find the reading fascinating and interesting, and I do hope that you will take the time to read the cards, like me.

I then took the bag out of the box. This is a close up picture of that bag. I must say that I was surprised with the quality of the bag. I thought the material would be a lot more rough and weak, but it is very sturdy and usable.

The book that I got for this month is Thirteen by Tom Hoyle. The book seems very interesting. It is about a cult trying to kill a 13-year-old boy born at the turn of the millennium before he turns 14 to save society. My only problem is that I am having a hard time seeing 7 to 13-year-old reading this kind of book. It is very suspenseful, very thrilling, but it is also very dark.

The next item that I grabbed out of the bag was the bookmark. I really do like this bookmark. However, I realize that I probably should get some counseling since it took me a while to realize that there are two different people, not the same person stuck in this weird cycle of forever going up this ladder.

The next item that I got was the two bags of tea. I am not a tea drinker, but they do seem interesting, so I might try them out.

The last two items that I got were a book light and a book holder. The holder works by placing your thumb in the whole and using it to hold the book open with one hand while you are drinking or eating. I still need to master using this device since I feel like it covers up more words that help me read. The book like is good, and is pretty strong. However, it is also really small. I tried using it last night and I kept only getting one-page lit. I had to place the light on my body facing the book in order to get the whole book. I have tried different positions with the book and nothing seems to work better than the light being on me.

That was it. It is a very small box, but so far it has been a good one. I am interested to see what I will get next month.
