has anyone here read the count of monte cristo. im like 80% of the way through and i did not expect dumas to be so direct with the eugénie danglars / louise d'armilly storyline? like he wrote them as lovers, real lovers? this story was published in the 1800s— was this a period-typical depiction? how did the audience at the time receive this? im genuinely floored and i need to know more about this ... also if anyone has read the book i wld also like to hear yalls thoughts

The Last Unicorn is my favourite book in the whole world. Why, you ask?

Because there's earthquake inducing, heartbreaking, beautiful quotes like this: "We are not always what we seem, and hardly ever what we dream."
