posting early bc i'm writing again! a little bit at least! as it turns out taking a break when you can feel your brain slowing down but before it fully stops is a great idea :) now to catch up on all the fics posted in the past few weeks!! tagging @blackbirdofasgard @calif0rnication @bringbackmaes14 :) also wanted to let everyone know that i'm running a poll on @dateeverythingcommentexchange to get ideas for a fall event so check that out if you're interested 🫶 anyways here's a bit of the next chapter of igrg, below the cut to avoid spoilers
"No, the asternaut goes in the space ship," she's explaining in between giggles, and you can't help but smile as you drag yourself out of bed and stumble into the hall, one hand on the wall for stability. "So she can go to space. She doesn't go in the boat. That would be silly!"
"Of course," the other person says. "How silly of me. Where does this one go?"
That isn't the babysitter. That isn't anyone who should be in your house, even though you immediately recognize the smooth baritone despite your pounding headache and the—has it really been five years since the last time that you heard that voice? You feel a pang of heartache, and then anger, and then you round the corner and see the unmistakeable back of Volt's head sitting on the floor next to your daughter like he has any fucking right to be there.
"Delilah Samantha Watts, you come here right now!" you rasp out, your voice harsher than you mean for it to be, but it has her scurrying to her feet and scrambling over to wrap her arms around your legs and look up at you with tears in her eyes like she's done something wrong.
The first time Volt sees you in five years—the first time he sees you since Eddie chose you over him—and you're a hungover mess yelling at your daughter—at Eddie's daughter, you know that Volt can only be seeing him in her beautiful little face—and making her cry.
You want to cry yourself.
He grunts as he uses his arms to push himself upright to stand and face you. His hair's immaculate as always, but he's beginning to wrinkle on his forehead and cheeks. Leather pants, tight black turtleneck, white socks on the hardwood floor. His jacket and boots must be by the door, his bike outside. You wonder if he still drives the same one. You wonder what else might've changed.
"Cover your ears, baby," you say to Delilah, and then bare your teeth at Volt. "What the fuck are you doing in my house?"
He smiles softly, pitifully at you, and you hate your traitorous heart for fluttering. "How are you feeling?" he asks quietly.

yeah yeah we all know i'm proud of this one. guys i'm SO proud of this one!!!! i was rereading it for the one year anniversary of posting the first chapter and i'm still so pleased with the tension and stakes especially around the climax

actually i am gonna hype myself up about the necrophilia fic bc i think it turned out great and i'm really proud of the prose and imagery, plus i do feel like it balances out the tradwife porn nicely so no one can ever accuse me of being sanitized lmao. but also i think i did a good job giving just enough detail to let the reader fill in the rest and do the work of horrifying themselves

the aforementioned tradwife porn. i love the pacing of this one and how it's essentially an extended montage. every time i try to write something else in this style i put it down bc i genuinely don't think that i can do this style better than this fic (at least until i improve my skills a whole lot)

more body horror which we know i love! it's always very tough to figure out how to describe surrealist imagery but i think the concept and prose worked together nicely in this. also lots of people left very kind comments reassuring me that the tone i was going for came across where the situation is objectively horrifying but the characters love each other through/despite/because of the horror. i also really love the way i wrote volt's creation in this and am planning on doing something else with that at some point because i find it so compelling

the current wip. veryyyy excited to show you all the plot that i have planned. this has been challenging me a lot in terms of writing an interpersonal conflict and needing to show character change in a way that will hopefully be believeable and compelling as it goes on. but i'm very happy with it so far and with my plan for the rest of it
thoughts on a fall comment event? I could run an exchange again (there are some things that I could've done more smoothly and I'm open to feedback on what could be improved from the last one) or (and this is my preference) a low pressure, no signup needed, season-long comment bingo challenge where I put together a board with prompts ("comment on a fic featuring halloween monsters," "comment on a fic under 500 words," etc) and people try to complete as many as they want. or something else altogether!

had the most DELICIOUS lunch today i made a fruit salad of strawberries + peach + fresh mozzarella + balsamic vinaigrette with sourdough toast on the side it felt DECADENT if it were 2015 i'd be posting a heavily filtered picture of it on instagram but it's not 2015 so i'm letting you all know instead
