FINAL BOOK RESULT 2/2
I enclosed the book using black spray painted cardboards to emphasis the idea of black hole eating everything up and disappearing. The black slime reiterates the un-organic “alien offspring” forms inside the book. I used nails to bound everything together.
FINAL BOOK RESULT 1/2
The final book result explores un-organic forms dubbed “alien offsprings” that is inspired from the sci-fi aspect of Frankenstein. These offsprings are also inspired from the un-organic dead body parts that Victor Frankenstein was able to form to create his monster. This sci-fi aspect took me on a journey exploring ways and methods of how show these images, right paper stock to use and how it’s going to be bind. Looking at the final result, I’m very happy and pleased with the decisions I’ve made on how to execute the final book work. I thought that going black on black gave the images a lot of emphasis and focused on the details of their form. It also adheres to the sci-fi theme that I went to, “a black hole inspired” book. Choosing the right binding method was also another thing that I addressed going from scummy binding to, ring binds. After speaking with Andy about the ring bind, I found larger ring hinges and after applying it. I felt that it gave the book what was missing. Flexibility and freedom to move. I also solve the problem of the book starting to look like “office style” book. A lot of experimentation and exploration was involved into making sure I executed this book properly.
Reflection
Throughout this whole journey, I struggled a lot but experimentation and actually doing something and putting it out there in real life, gave me cleared ideas on how to go about executing things that came up from doing this book, to learning what failed, what didn’t work and what did. The biggest problem I faced was probably finding a theme. I went on about searching for this by going back to my first prototype and analysis what I did right and what I needed to do to improve from those mistakes. Talking with Andy really helped a lot in clearing my thoughts and thinking about the processes I needed to do to come up with solutions. Reflecting on the book, again I was very pleased with the result. The images came out really nicely with half tone which emphasised their form a lot. The biggest thing that came out of this bookwork, was just the aspect of experimentation and giving it a go so that you can actually find out what will work instead of having it just inside your head and conceptualising it.
PROCESS
After the failed experiment with the scummy binding, I decided to go with a ring bind instead and I was able to get a much better finish than the scummy bind. However, after reflecting on the finished book, I still felt like something was missing/lacking, it wasn’t “clicking”. I struggled and thought about this missing element so I decided to talk to Andy about it. After showing him the book and discussing a few topics on how I should go on about solving this problem. He suggested to try and get a bigger ring binders and react to it.
Reflection After discussing this with Andy, I felt that a sense of relief and gave me more ideas to work on trying to solve this dilemma. He pointed out about the book starting to look like an “office” type look which I wanted to avoid. This point led me to thinking on how I can address that by trying to figure what kind of binding material I should try. Another great point was about the way the holes were punch and how it added another element to the book. In terms of the book, I was very happy with the final outcome of the images on how i turned out with the black paper. I felt that everything came together in the end but I just needed to address the binding material.
Note: Trying to take the photo and getting the right colour was a bit of struggle that’s why the images are bit blue and darkish compared to the gif
So after waiting for the slime to dry out and binding the whole book. It didn’t turn out the way I imagined it to be. The slime part of the book really dried out and pretty much disappeared and by doing that also just made that part of the book crumpled and extending to the images of the other signature. The scummy glue had a different green colour which is not the one I was hoping for and it smelt really bad. I felt that the rough aesthetic of the book overtook the contents which wasn’t the plan. I hoped to that it would’ve have found a more balanced way to show both a rough aesthetic and the content inside. So during Week 11 class, I showed Andy my prototype for final book and we discussed about it. He spoked about going in two different directions where I used one light source which is the green slim/scummy bind or just go “dark” like a black hole where the binding should also be black. At first I thought I could still find a way to balance the two but then I started I liking the idea of going “dark”. Using just the black tone aesthetic for the whole book would still align with my subject and create an even more mysterious effect on my images.
In the afternoon, I’ve also found a way to use the slime as part of my aesthetic, instead of putting onto the book I’ll be creating a black slime this time and using it to entrap my final book. (An image would better explain it, so I’ll be getting onto it)

REFLECTION
Exploring and Experimenting are 2 things I’ve learnt throughout this course. Even if it fails, at least you’ve actually made it. It’s good to have heaps of conceptual ideas but as long as it’s not in real life. You wouldn’t know if it would actually work. I’ve always had hesitation sof trying to do a physical mockup over the fear of it not working but through the different assessment we’ve done and prototyping I’ve made , I’ve come to realise that I did a lot more work compared to just writing it down and having it on screen.
In terms of the work that we’ve been exposed to, I started to get really attracted to the works that has a roughness and messy aesthetic to them. I thought that this made me want to grab the book and feel it’s texture. This is why I was inspired to do create something like of that style for my final book. Using the tumblr as a journal also helped me keep organised in how I’m going with my work and know where I’m at compared to other people. Using this type of social media as tool for learning by looking at what other people posted exposed me to other works, that I probably wouldn’t be able to find or know of myself.

Some of the “offsprings” I’ve created using 3d Software. Experimenting and playing around with the form of the shapes helped me a lot trying to mould my creation to the way I wanted *Insert reference about Victor Frankenstein’s numerous experiment before creating his monster to come alive*.
