Mei Lin was in danger and had been from the time of her birth, torn from her family on the day she was born, Mei Lin was the only hope for her people, therefore she had to be protected. Hunted to near extinction by the slayers, twelve families relocated their children in secret to the world of mortals in hopes that, when they returned they would stop the genocide that had been going on for more than 20 years. Mei Lin grew up on Earth and was raised like any other human child, except for being able to breath fire when she turned 12 and having an uncanny ability to control snakes and any other reptile creatures. When she turns 18th and graduates from high school, she is sent to train and to learn how to control her gifts but no amount of training could have prepared them for when they are found by the slayers. Now the hunt has started and they must flee all that they have known to protect their human friends and families, a hunt that takes them from the land to sea, from the land of their birth and back to the human world.
