Sigiriya (traduit de la langue cingalaise - «Lion's rock») - l'attraction principale du Sri Lanka, située dans la partie centrale de l'État insulaire, dans le district de Matale. Il s'agit d'un plateau rocheux à 370 mètres d'altitude, au sommet duquel se trouve un complexe de palais et de forteresse en ruine, entouré d'un vaste réseau de jardins, piscines et autres bâtiments anciens délabrés.
Le plateau rocheux de Sigiriya est une puissante formation formée du magma d'un volcan éteint et détruit. Il s'élève à 170 mètres au-dessus de la plaine plate environnante.
