can’t believe jonny was doing an event in my fucking hometown last week and i couldn’t go

Okay, as an addition to this post I made earlier, I think it’s worth pointing out that, even though I support and am happy with the canon Naruto endgame ships, there are some things about the ending that I am unhappy with. Specifically Orochimaru not being punished for all the shit he did (he experimented on so many people, including babies, killed the Third Hokage, manipulated Sasuke, etc. Like what hasn’t he done?), and Team Taka (aka characters he experimented on/abused) still ‘working’ for him. Oh yeah, and Yamato being the one who has to watch him, even though he was experimented on by Orochimaru, too. Then there’s the matter of how he treated Mitsuki, his own son. Like, all of that is just so shitty, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth in terms of the ending, at least for that aspect of it.

Back when I was watching Incredibles 2, every time Evelyn appeared on screen, I was all ‘she reminds me of someone’ (and I don’t mean Roxanne from Megamind). And then it hit me.

Gaby. She reminded me of an older Gaby Garamond, XD.

(And I mean... Bitter? Check. Tired? Check. Jaded? Check. The difference is that Gaby is not a villain. [In contrast to Evelyn, who Helen trusted until the ‘plot twist’, Haruko doesn’t trust Gaby at first, but then realizes she’s not villainous at all later on.])

More WP ranting because I will forever be salty about this character (and I invented him, jfc) I haven’t ranted about these dudes in awhile, woah. I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, and just finally had the energy to write it out.

So, not only is Ivan Korovichenko misogynistic (I can give countless examples of material for this not even including how he treats ELL...), but he’s also homophobic. (Examples: One reason he hates Fiske so much is because he looks like a stereotypical het male but he’s actually gay. Once he realizes Paula is a lesbian, he loses the little respect he had for her. On that note, he also blames Paula for ‘corrupting’ Liutas [who is bisexual], and tries to ‘cure’ Liu by attempting to make her his girlfriend [which doesn’t work out because Liutas chews him out for it, despite her fear of him, in the middle of the dining hall]. Hmm, what else... Oh yeah, he calls Tobiasz a ‘f-g’, even though ironically he’s one of the few straight characters in this, and slut shames Jane after they break up because he discovers that she had relationships with Francine and Edwina before him [even though she never even slept with them, nor was she particularly romantically affectionate toward Edwina, for that matter]. Oh yeah, and I don’t think this would be considered homophobic, but he mocks Elts for being asexual [so on top of the homophobia, he’s also acephobic too.)

And the thing is, he never improves his attitude. Tobiasz, for example, was implied to have some homophobia due to his traditional upbringing, but he grows and develops as a character, so he changes his views and realizes his thinking was closeminded not even halfway through the plot. (And he eventually feels TERRIBLE about outing Liutas, and calls himself ‘a fucking douche’ because of it, XD. [See, even when he’s a jerk, Tobiasz is still more likeable, haha])

Ivan also grew up in a traditional household, but after being surrounded by different types of people, still didn’t change his views.

And this is why I cringe when he gets woobified. If the story went on longer and the slice-of-life plot wasn’t interrupted by the whole scientific testing subplot, maybe he could have improved. And who knows, I might write him eventually redeeming himself in an extra spinoff or something since, as years go by, he’d probably mature. But it’s just frustrating to create a character who bullies others (and the way he treats ELL in particular seems almost more like torture), yet he’s still one of my more popular OCs. (Not that there’s anything wrong with liking a particular character, but you know what I mean)

Like, for awhile, I even toned down his maliciousness a bit, but it was weird because he still bullied the ELL Trio, but other characters still cut him slack. It seemed so off to me (especially for self-proclaimed ‘superhero wannabees’ like Jane), so I decided to go back to the original outline for his character. AKA a douchebag that people don’t know is a douche at first, but after he picks on ELL publicly, Jane and co. call him out on it.
