Knock knock Hmm I’m not sure how I feel about this book. If you’ve read it, what did you think? Basically, it’s about a criminal inspector who was called to a murder scene where a family was murdered bar one. A 5-year old girl who was placed into witness protection and then 17 years later, a break-in happens in the same place as the murder. BUT THEN there’s also a former police informant who’s being threatened by the criminal underworld. These two men find themselves caught in a criminal conspiracy. So here’s the thing, the blurb hooked me. In the first few pages hooked me. But then as I kept reading, I found myself skimming paragraphs because the book is just way too long. But I kept reading because I wanted to know if there would be more action or something suspenseful, but the ending was underwhelming. What I did enjoy was the dynamic between the criminal inspector and former police informant. close to me without giving too much away, basically the wife wakes up after falling from the stairs and she can’t remember anything from the past year. she has this feeling that she’s afraid of her husband but she can’t remember why. what I enjoyed about this book is that the chapters were split between the past year and the days after the fall. i kept reading because I wanted to know more about the past year. what memories, crucial ones, was she not able to remember? slowly, through the chapters certain memories are retrieved and as the reader you get an insight into the wife’s life. the ending was bittersweet. *I did find that I was skimming some pages just because I wanted to know the outcome. ** if you don’t want to read it, you can watch the show on @channel4 @primevideouk or other channels. T H I S I S W H E R E I T E N D S This was a quick read - finished it in 4 hours (which is always a good indicator of whether I like a book or not). TW: school shooting It recounts the events surrounding a gun shooting at school from different students perspectives. You get to learn a bit about some of the main characters’ home lives. It’s a #youngadultfiction book but I think it’s a book everyone can and should read. Fair warning, it doesn’t have a happy ending or maybe it does (perspective 🤷🏻‍♀️). G R I E F W O R K S By Julia Samuel What a book. TW: grief/death Whether you’re grieving, have grieved or never grieved, this book is a must read. Stories of those who’ve lost a parent, a child, a sibling and of those who are trying to process their own imminent death. Some of the stories are heartbreaking and heavy, I found myself putting down the book and coming back to it after a while just to process what I was reading. Samuel, a grief psychotherapist, reminds us that grief is something that we all will go through in life. Death, often a taboo subject, is something many of us stray from discussing. Rather we need to talk about death and understand the process of grief. I’m sure we all know someone who has lost a loved one and maybe we’ve been at a loss on how to ‘comfort’ or ‘support’ them, that’s why the section What Friends and Family Can Do to Help can be helpful for anyone to read and learn from. Learn about grief because many case studies from this book share a lesson on how the individuals have processed the loss of a loved one. It may help you but it may not, at the end of the day, we all will grieve differently. FIFTY FIFTY Omg what a book! Two sisters are on trial for murder. The murder of their father that is! The two sisters accuse each other for the murder but who is telling the truth and who is lying? From the beginning of the book, you are given a glimpse of the murderer’s thoughts, you start to doubt each sister, you might even think you’ve guessed which sister is guilty. But let me tell you, until you reach the final pages, you will be gripping the book, you’re not going to want to put it down until you know who is guilty and who is innocent. A book I definitely recommend, I give it: 4.5/5 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 P.S. #bookwormwednesday Slowly growing this stack. This weeks featured books are The Dead Ex by Jane Corry and A Republic If You Can Keep It by Neil Gorsuch. Both were great reads. The Dead Ex had a twist I certainly did not see coming. A Republic was an interesting collection of speeches and essays about how to view the judges side of the law.
