Ingredients: 2 cups heavy cream. 1 cup whole milk. 3/4 cup granulated sugar. 4 large egg yolks. 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice. 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice. Zest of 1 orange. Zest of 1 lemon. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Instructions: In a saucepan, heat the cream, milk, and half of the sugar over medium heat until hot but not boiling. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and remaining sugar until pale and slightly thickened. Slowly pour the hot cream mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon about 5-7 minutes. Do not let it boil. Strain the mixture into a clean bowl and stir in the orange juice, lemon juice, orange zest, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Cover and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight. Once chilled, churn the mixture in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency. Transfer the churned ice cream to a freezer-safe container, cover, and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm. Serve scoops of the Sunshine Citrus Dream ice cream garnished with additional zest or fruit slices if desired.
