“Arthan wants the Helot tech?” “Yes,” Dubari said. “He thinks we can use it to win the war.”

I feel like this has been the obvious direction since Jakari's first complaint about Arthan.

Not in a bad way. Just in the same way you knew Jakari and Hayami would end up drifting together. You watch and you wait and while with Jakayami it's with slowly building excitement, with Arthan it's just been slow pooling dread, wondering when the secret would come out and how big of a blow would accompany it.

So dude handed off a reasonably solid way to end the war in order to go full monster.

Just as insane as Jaya indeed.

“Cikara really was playing it straight with us, and Dubari killed him.”

I vote we broil Dubari. The phylactery pain overrides would kick in eventually. They'd be fine... Maybe... Eventually.

I'm thinking full Hannibal Lecter "cut your own face off and eat it" then burn off what is left treatment for Arthan though if it turns out Dubari really did reach out and got told to stick to the OG plan despite finally having basically been handed the best opportunity to end the war (with an easily spun Suil victory no less) and setting it on fire.

“Take Dubari,” she said to the guards. “Form Lock them and throw them in a holding cell. No one talks to them except me, Prack, or the General.”

GOOD!

Hope they get their ass reamed to hell and back. It'll get them to think long enough to realise "following OLD orders" is not the best course of action just because they came first.

Or maybe they'll just sit there until a court martial or execution for taking actions that prolonged the war and stole a win from the Suil's grasp. I wonder if Arthan will show some loyalty in return and intercede to save their ass or if the fucker will just call for a harsher punishment against Dubari once it becomes clear how big of a chance they just lost everyone.

“Shut up,” Jakari said. “Say one more word, and I don’t care who your parents are. I’ll kill you where you stand.”

I like Prack just enough to not be pissy about this decision, and I am wholly gratified that the only reason Dubari appears to get to continue living is because Jakari doesn't wanna have to tell their parents that she killed the little shit.

Here ends chapter 23. Chapter 24 tomorrow night.

Plasma sailed across the compartment, enveloping Cikara, vaporizing their head and torso. The limbs instantly reverted to the liquid form of uncontrolled TOP matter.
