Mamachi frowned. They got up and walked into the back of the transport and saw the seat where they had left Dubari empty and felt their stomach sink.

Huh Dubari might be the one to die after all...

I assume if they had winged their Phylactery it's be game fucking over so what??? Has Cikara got some other experimental secret weapon... Did they get hit with something capable of carrying a form-lock script instead of standard plasma? Was there something more than a line of coding to that secret Helot ingredient?

I am on tenterhooks.

“They’re younger than I am!” Dubari said. “So is ninety-nine percent of the fucking Gadan species! Hamadri is six thousand years old. The fact that your parents are Migrants and you were one of the first generation of native-born means almost anyone they might meet and fall in love with is going to be younger than you."

I just had a mental flash of what age gap discourse would look like for Gadans and it wasn't all that disimilar to how I imagine encountering an eldritch horror might feel. I heartily do NOT recommend.

“It’s not my back I’m worried about,” Jakari said. “I know I can trust you to watch it, right up to the day Arthan orders you to kill me.” “He wouldn’t do that,” Dubari said.

Anyways where was I? Oh yeah.

Not only are they a fucking idiot if they think Arthan wouldn't order it, they're showing their entire ass when their answer to that statement is "He wouldn't order it" and not "I would have your back regardless."

I have no faith in Dubari to ignore a direct order from Arthan, so even if they had said the "I'd still have your back" thing I would have thought they were lying, but still.

“I’m sorry to interrupt the trip down memory lane, but can we talk about the fact that you just decided to toss our orders out the window?” Dubari said.

HEY! I was enjoying that trip down memory lane! Ofc Dubari has to chime in to sulk over not doing EXACTLY what Arthan asked even though Napati is RIGHT THERE saying (agreeing) this is the plan now.

Given how much Arthan hates Jaya it kinda seems like even if they did tell him he'd be down with it... then again he might lose a lot of staying power as leader if the war ends... If he was an effective enough leader then he could probably ride the wave of being the leader that won the war and brought about peace... If he were an effective enough leader he wouldn't have some mutual obsession with Jaya and him hurting each other over actually fighting the war.

“No, Dubari is mad because they caught their dad having sex with someone other than their mother,” Jakari said. “Which would have been justified, if their mother hadn’t known about it and been sleeping with Hamadri too.”

The Master of Puppets Chapter 14

“But we’ve got them,” Dubari said. “We could go in tonight, take Cikara out, destroy the research, and be on the way home by tomorrow morning.” “We could,” Jakari began, “but like I said, something feels off. My gut tells me there’s more going on here than we know.” “We should probably run this by Napati,” Mamachi said.

I love how from most everyone's perspective Mamachi is blatantly enabling Jakari's tendency to go off script but like, they invoked Napati. Who is about to stop them by saying "No no, we shouldn't bother a superior officer with this potentially war changing piece of information."? No one, that's who.

Poor Dubari is probably so frustrated. Might even go crying straight to Arthan, or do something stupid like try to continue the mission alone without Jakari for back up.

No matter what, whether Dubari pushes for action or they follow Jakari's plan to talk with Cikara first things are going to be dramatic and messy AF!
