Much like teaching them about nutritious foods and moving your body, it's something that if they learn at an early age, they won't have to reverse and recover from later in life, or at the very least, will provide them with more resiliency. ___________ •By the age of 5 kids begin comparing their bodies. •By elementary school, 40% of girls want to be thinner. •At 9 years old over half of girls are consistently on diets. •69% of elementary girls compare themselves to models in magazines as the ideal body shape. 🔊And that's not even getting into the effects of the most toxic environment for body image: social media, where on average 8-18 year olds spend over 6 hours a day on.🔊 ________________ Providing a supportive environment for our children, one where we focus on how we want to feel, encouraging healthful activities without a focus on weightloss, opening up discerning conversations about the realities of main stream media and manipulation, including mind and soul into a holistic picture of health NOT JUST PHYSICAL and allowing them to see diversity in people, bodies, abilities:::::: THAT'S OUR RESPONSIBILITY It's time to say "I'm done perpetuating this ridiculous body ideal" and pave the way for our young girls and women (and boys!!!) to know what's REAL and that being YOU is all they have to do to be acceptable and worthy. Just because it's the way it's always been done, doesn't mean we don't have a choice in the matter. And I choose to change this for my children and their children and every other young person that has an uphill battle to embracing themselves just by simply existing. _______ We owe it to them.
