Put on your biggest hat, it’s Kentucky Derby time! And Louisiana is proud to have our own derby hero. Beginning in 2007, jockey Calvin Borel won an unprecedented three Kentucky Derbies in a four-year span. Though he retired in March 2016 after 5,146 career wins, Borel returned to sport the following August. Known as “Bo-rail” because of his penchant for riding close to the rail, the jockey is a native of St. Martin’s Parish. In June of this year, Calvin Borel will be officially inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. This wonderful portrait of Borel, painted by sports artist Chris Brown, will then become a part of the vast collection of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum in Natchitoches, LA. #horseracing #jockey #borail #calvinborel #stmartinparish #chrisbrownsportsart #natchitoches #sportrait #kentuckyderby #onlylouisiana #nttw2017
