`Kismet
Stray lights danced across the floor between the waves of bodies pressed too closely as they writhed to the music blaring from surround sound. Yongguk watched the debauchery from afar, a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He hadn't been there long, and it would be quite a while before he could even nearly call himself intoxicated, but he enjoyed watching humans thrive in sin. It would never live up to the loud drunken nights in taverns and brothels he'd once had when he'd been alive, but it was enough to keep him entertained.
As smoky liquid passed down his throat, his eyes take notice of another predator in the vicinity. "Well, well." It wasn't all that unusual to find other creatures scouring clubs for sinners to feed off of, but there was an elegance in her aura that suggested something unnatural for the dingy clubs of downtown Seoul. Stamping out the cigarette and taking one last whiff of the plume of smoke that winds its way to its death, Yongguk heads out to the dance floor to meet the other vampire. As he gets closer, he realizes they've met briefly before, though he has no real idea of her nature. "Bora." His voice is a velvet whisper sent fluttering along the vibrations of bass and treble to her ears.
Well hello there stranger, long time no see.
Miss Bora, it has been awhile. Over a year, if I do recall properly. How have you been?
Queen of Hearts - Bora and Eli
Eli smirked a little as he idly played with the golden foxhead medallion he wore on his neck. It was a "gift", a souveniour from the time he was taken by fox spirits to another realm, a place they called Erebus. They were speaking a language that he had never heard before, a language he doubted many had ever heard before. He wouldn't have believed it himself if it hadn't happened to him. Taken by foxes to a place that sounded like the name of a nightclub, not the crazy, macabre world with twisted architecture to which he was taken. It looked to him like someone had tried to design a medieval town after many, many hits of acid.
Of course, Eli wasn't exactly a stranger to the supernatural. Oh no, after a night winning a drinking contest in Kyoto he stumbled drunkenly into a forest on the outskirts of town. Where, of all things, a werewolf was waiting for him. Eli was a decent fighter, had to be when you made a living as a small-time criminal, wandering from taver to tavern. But a werewolf was too much for him. He survived the attack but the transition was .... difficult. Life was crazy enough as a gamber, thief and smuggler living in the underbelly of Korea and Japan. Add "werewolf" to the mix and it led to some .. wild times. Including a brief stint as an assassin, doing dirty work for the Yakuza.
He smiled as he looked down at the foxhead medallion, golden with emerald eyes. Before all this crazy otherworldly stuff had happened to him, he might have pawned it, using if for gambling money or booze, another side effect of growing up in bars. But he held onto it as a keepsake and to remind himself of just how fucked up the mythical world could be. A world he was now inextricably linked to. When he woke up from his "visit" to Erebus. The golden foxhead medallion wasn't the only parting gift he received. He also had the memories of many, many other beings in his head. Some old. LIke thousands of years old. He also had an unnatural affinity with ancient weapons, able to wield them as if trained from birth in an ancient dojo. And his luck.
He assumed it was another "gift" from the foxes. At least that's when he started noticing it, when he was brought back. Fortune seemed to favor him more often than not. Luck was no longer just a made-up concept.. it became a physical force. One that seemed to twist in his favor. This was fortunate as a gambler, but not as fortunate when the other players accused you of cheating. That was when the werewolf part came in handy. Now, he was betting on that luck when he picked up the phone to call Bora, his friend, a vampire girl he had taken the job of protecting shortly after his "career" with the Yakuza turned sour and he had to ...retire his former bosses.
At first it seemed she couldn't stand him. He was an immortal, which for some reason made her automatically distrust him. Being a perverted scoundrel of an immortal put him even lower on her list. He was a bit of a skirt-chaser, having had flings with both mortal and immortal girls alike. But they were recently in a situation where they were alone together and had to rely on each other, it was then that her icy demeanor towards him began to thaw and her hesitance to trust him began to melt away. Eli had a 1001 faults but he was caring and loyal, doing anything for those close to him. He took a job as her bodyguard and not long after that they became friends. Eli wanted more though. He hadn't told her this, he could scarcely believe it himself, but he knew he wanted her and no one else. All other girls disappeared from the world in the few hours they spent together that one day. He couldn't explain it, nothing in his life had ever been permanent. His parents were killed on an attack on their home when he was a little boy, since then nothing in his life was fixed. But he knew he wanted and needed her. The woman who seemed the least impressed by his charm or his smoothness. The woman he had to work just to be friends with. The last woman on Earth that wanted to be with him. He knew it was her or nothing. He was hoping luck would twist in his direction again when he saw her phone pick up. A mischevious but loving smile spread across his lips. "Hello Bora? What are you doing tonight?"
