>_< America’s modern reputation: lying and deception, calling one thing another thing, and just generally being dishonest. Sigh.
I mean... I have slightly more faith in other instances, but anything to do with DHS or the TSA is honestly creepily xenophobic and a testament to just how much the whole “terrorism” narrative has played into the hands of the Powers That Be. In order to enter the US I’m going to need to be fingerprinted and photographed, and these fingerprints are, last I heard, saved in a database well beyond a reasonable timeframe. (Saving it until you’ve used the information to verify that it’s the same person leaving the country that entered the country is hella paranoid. Saving it for longer is IMO shady as all fuck.)
It’s frustrating as hell to watch because the US is politically powerful enough, worldwide, that apparently no other country dares speak up and question what the fuck they’re doing.

The USA, at least, is fond of saying "fuck you for thinking of crossing the border no matter the reason or who you are". At least, that's what I keep getting from all the stories of people trying to visit for a week or being actual citizens and having issues getting back in.
I’m not sure how bad it is these days, though I remember how much faster the “citizen” line moved when I was arriving for my exchange year. I do know this ridiculous “not a VISA, honest!” isn’t needed for US citizens/residents. I guess it might still be bad by my standards?
I know the friend I’m visiting was kinda floored when he was visiting me and immigration was pretty much “*glance at passport* Welcome to Europe, sir!” Which I think is normal. XD
I may also be horrible at answering Immigration’s questions inconspicuously - I’ve had an Immigration officer insist I draw him something because I said I was going to an art convention, and when I went to visit my fiancé-cum-husband a couple years ago the lady I talked to was being ridiculously concerned until I mentioned my parents were along, too.
