New Tales From the Borderlands Part 5
Tediore soldiers bark orders to each other as they fire bullets across the street, many of them in a panic.
A grenade flies out from behind the stone wall they’ve been shooting at. One of them shoots at it, causing it to explode in the air, but it just splits into dozens of smaller grenades. They rain down around the group, pelting them with smaller explosions and knocking them down.
Skies emerges from her cover and marches to the group of downed, groaning soldiers. One by one, she shoots them in their heads with her pistol as she goes by. A few try to fight back by grabbing their guns, but she disarms them easily- quite literally by removing their arm with her fist blade.
She finally stops when only one soldier remains: a captain. As she approaches, he struggles to his feet and arms his SMG. But before he can fire, Skies shoots first and takes out one of his knees. He cries out in pain as he collapses but still tries to aim his gun at her. She’s on him in an instant though, driving her blade through the underside of his elbow. Again, he cries in pain as his gun clatters to the ground.
“I got only one question,” Skies hisses, “and you better have the answer.”
He glares at her through the visor of his helmet. “You...you’re the one who’s been assassinating all of our patrol units.”
“Wow, nice deduction, genius,” she comments, “since you’re so smart, you must know where your boss is. Where’s Susan Coldwell?” He grimaces in pain as Skies digs her blade in his arm. “Even...even if I tell you...you’ll still kill me.”
“I’m gonna kill you either way,” she points out, “so you might as well make yourself useful before you die.”
“I...will never...betray my leader...”
“We’ll see.”
Skies removes her blade from his arm and instead drives it into his uninjured knee, right under his kneecap. The soldier wails and writhes in agony as her blade scrapes against his bone.
“Tell me where she is,” Skies demands, “and all of this ends.”
“I...I don’t know!” he cries, “all I know is, during the invasion she arrived in a ship that hid in the city. It looks like one of the buildings. But I don’t know where, I promise!”
“There,” she sighs, removing her blade. “That wasn’t so hard, was it?”
Before he can reply, she slits his throat and leaves him to bleed out.
“Finally, some progress,” Skies remarks as she scales a nearby building. “All I gotta do is find the new building.”

The Beach Day
Three drop ships are released from Sanctuary III, one at time. They break through the atmosphere for Aquator and crash onto an island, sending sand splashing high into the air.
“Woo, catch a ride!” Ellie exclaims as she exits one, shortly followed by Moxxi.
“That is, indeed, a ride,” she agrees drily, trying to fix her hair.
The second ship opens, and Tannis, Ava, Timothy, and Skies stumble out.
“Remind me never to do that again,” Tannis croaks.
“It was awesome!” Ava cheers.
“I told you guys we could’ve just come down in my ship,” Skies says.
The third ship opens, releasing Moze, Zane, Amara, and FL4K.
“It’s more fun to come down at breakneck speeds,” Moze argues.
“Yeah, gotta love the thrill,” Zane agrees.
“What’s important is now we’re here,” Moxxi says, “so where’s Rhys?”
“He should be over there,” Skies replies and everyone follows her to the beach house in the middle of the island.
As they arrive, they find someone in board shorts standing on the balcony, enjoying the warm breeze through his hair. “Hey, guys!”
“Lor!” Skies exclaims happily. “Love the new hair.”
“Thanks, mate,” he replies as he hops over the banister and meets with the Vault Hunters. “Rhys is just inside. Make yourselves at home.”
“Thank you,” Moxxi nods appreciatively as everyone goes inside.
Calling it a beach house doesn’t do it enough justice. It’s more like a small beach manor- three stories with large rooms. The first floor is just the den and kitchen, both giant. In the den, lounging in a recliner they find Rhys, wearing board shorts and an A-shirt. He immediately sits up as everyone walks in.
“Rhys’s Pieces!” Skies cheers and runs into a hug.
“Hey!” he smiles, hugging her back, and looks up at everyone else. “Welcome! I’m glad you could all make it.”

New Tales From the Borderlands Part 4
A pair of Tediore soldiers patrols the streets of Meridian City. It’s late at night, and the quiet, empty roads are illuminated by the streetlamps.
One of the soldiers yawns loudly. “Ugh, this sucks. I’d much rather be in my bed right now. Maybe with a nice, hot mug of tea.”
“Yeah,” the other agrees, “these night shifts are gonna kill me.”
“It’s not the night shift that’s gonna kill ya.”
The sudden voice startles the pair and they spin, raising their SMGs. But they barely manage to turn all the way around before, in a single swift movement, one gets his neck sliced open while the other is stabbed through his helmet.
Both bodies slump to the ground, their SMGs clattering next to them, as Skies shakes their blood off her fist and forearm blades. Then she crouches next to them and quickly digs through their pockets and scrolls through their ECHO devices.
“Tch, nothing,” she spits, tossing the devices to the side and leaving the bodies in the light of the streetlamps.
Skies has been stalking the dark streets, hunting down Tediore soldiers just like the ones she just killed. She’s not doing it for fun- although it is admittedly pretty fun. She’s looking for information. Unfortunately, these soldiers must be on a lower rung because none of them have anything of use.
As Skies marches down the road, she hears a series of hushed voices. She turns the corner just in time to see a small group of civilians hustling into a building. She quickly recognizes it as coffee shop called No Roast 4 The Wicked, owned by a friend of hers, and she approaches the front door. As she hears it shut and lock, she knocks.
“We’re closed!” a voice snaps.
“Lor,” Skies says, “it’s me.”
The door quickly opens and Lor smiles excitedly. “Skies! Hey, I heard you were here. Come on in.”
He invites her inside and locks the door behind her. The place is bustling, full of different people huddled together and chatting comfortably. Skies recognizes Diamond Danielle, who she met earlier today, with a Tink and a Truxican man.
“Wow, it’s busy considering the uh present circumstances,” Skies remarks.
“Well, we ain’t gonna let Tediore’s new rules and curfews stop us from having fun,” Lor declares.
“Hell yeah, love a good rebellion.”

The Mole
Rhys stands in his new office on the Atlas HQ ship, looking out his window at Promethea below. He takes a deep breath and turns to face his guests, planting his hands on his desk. “I got an important job for you three.”
“This is a very delicate matter,” he explains, “the details cannot leave this room. It must be handled quickly and quietly. If anyone else finds out, we risk a media frenzy.”
“I believe Atlas has a mole. Last night an important document went missing from the safe in R&D. Whoever the thief is, they would’ve gotten away unscathed if one of the scientists didn’t happen to be working overtime and ran into them at the safe. The thief shot at them and made their escape, but the scientist survived and requested the ship be put on lock down. Which means, whoever the mole is, they are still on the ship.”
“The reason for the lock down has not been announced. Aside from the scientist and our little group, the only ones who know about the theft is security who have been looking into it, but have yet to find anything. I trust the three of you will be able to learn more. But we must raise the lock down within a couple hours before we have to give a reason, so I really need you to find the mole before then. Understand?”
Zer0, Lor, and Skies stand before Rhys’ desk, listening to his explanation. As he finishes up, Skies grins. “Don’t worry, Rhysie. We got this.” “You can count on us,” Lor agrees.
“We shall find this mole/ hunt them down and capture them/ they shall not escape,” Zer0 adds.
Rhys smiles shakingly. “There is no one else I would trust with a matter this delicate than the three of you. I know you won’t fail me.”
They nod and take their leave.
“Right, so we oughta meet with the scientist who was shot and see what they know,” Lor suggests.
“They will be in the/ medbay, recovering from/ their warrior’s wound,” Zer0 says.
“We should also check the surveillance footage,” Skies adds, “we might see something security missed.”
They go to the medbay first. An inactive nursebot stands at the front of the room leading to the patient’s rooms. It turns on as soon as the trio enter.
