or Jason Viii
Welcome back? Let’s get to the action, cause this chapter has it happening.
the Throne room was like a meat locker.
It starts as you might expect. Ice sculpture people, and wintery tapestries, and Jason gets nicknamed Jason Jr by Zethes. The guy also offers to loan Piper something for her hair. How nice of him.
It's not enough that Piper can read now. She also pulls out something that would almost have me want me to be an Aphrodite child.
She can automatically speak French, the language of love.
Automatic installation of a secondary language, and dyslexic free reading ability in a demigod.
Percy is still winning with water healing, but…
Anyways gods take on the language of their location , so that is why Boreas speaks French as he enjoys and resides in Quebec.
To the point, he has orders to kill them.
He decides to speak in English, as Piper has spoken to him in his, which is exactly why you want to know some French before visiting Quebec, as they aren't going to speak your language unless you make an effort in theirs first. Going to call it now, most accurate thing in this book.
Maybe this holds true for other places, but Quebec is the place I know this for sure about. (I am not well traveled. )
Anyways, he is reluctant to kill a son of Zeus without hearing him out first, so Jason gets to talk, and he doesn't like his odds fighting.
Aeolus is master of winds, and Demigods give him a lot of headaches asking for favors, unleashing winds, and causing Chaos. But the real insult happened during the battle with Typhon.
He brings out the ice-screen TV to show this bit off.
When Typhon is destroyed it releases the storm spirits, and it's his job to track them down and imprison them. The gods don't help or even apologize for the inconvenience. So he's irritated.
Now Typhon was defeated again, so he has to do that damned job again. He's taking it out on the Demigods because he can't take it out on the gods, his bosses.
So it's a classic case of taking it out on the ones lower on the totem pole than you.
He’s taking a moment to listen to Jason and Co, cause Aeolus said to. Claimed it would make their lives very interesting. Also it would make his daughter sad not to.
“It may be that I don't kill you.”
Instead they might be turned into one of the unmoving ice statues that are actually frozen demi-gods.
Are they truly alive if they only move when he tells them to? A good question, I doubt will be answered in this book.
His children would certainly like Piper and Jason to end up as Icee statues, immortalized in ice for their pleasure forever and ever.
Welp, all this has Jason freaking out. Shit they gunna die! Just to make things worse, Khione molests Jason. Jason reacts on instinct and Tazes her.
Zethes is pleased he did that to his sis, although it also means he has to kill him now.
Khione preps Blizzard attack . In a Pokémon game this is a two turn move. Although in this environment , it shouldn't need too much prep, just use the moisture from their skin, girl.
Jason orders them to stop with fake it until you make it confidence. It's the mention that he is a son of Zeus favored by Hera that gets them the floor.
And then Piper steals the show, thankfully as Jason got stage fright.
Where did Piper learn to curtsey so well, anyways? Her dad?
Piper recaps. So this leads to the revival of good news and bad news.
Good news, Da coach is alive…. For now.
Bad news, the horrors are stirring and Starbucks is only the beginning. The one who will wake is worse than any Titan. It is Walmart, the dreaded! Monsters are no longer confined to Tartarus and Souls no longer confined to the Afterlife. The final battle is yet to come, the dark hour approaching.
Piper is making good arguments, possibly with charmspeak. Radiating confidence, and looking like herself (does Aphrodite have a weakness to ice? They should ask Nico), she makes arguments like “we can capture the storm spirits, and bring them to your boss. Then you will look good, and he can pardon us and the rest of the demigods and even rescue da coach. W’s all around!”
Sadly Khione is not bisexual enough to be easily persuaded by Piper.
Jason gets ready for battle. Boreas pays attention to his arm. Did I forget to Talk about Jason's Arm earlier? I might have?
Let's rectify that now.
He has an eagle (Zeus) 12 lines (maybe Stands for years if he had been making them since he was 3) and SPQR (the moto of the old Roman Emperor ) burned onto his arm.
Annabeth joked about a harsh Latin teacher at the time. I'll make a joke now. This isn't blushing at foreshadowing, it's bludgeoning us with it.
This isn't a case of letting the hints build up throughout the book, this is hitting us on the head with that tidbit. Like Jason and that rock.
Boreas shape shifts into Aquilon, his Roman form. Jason instantly knows who that is, but doesn't know why.
Guys, I think Hera stole more than his memories.
He then clarifies that Jason came from camp Half-blood, and that Hera sent him there.
Suddenly he is filled with clarity. Hera is gambling the big bucks, and Olympus must be closed because they tremble at it! Hahahahahahaha
Piper is here wondering what the hell is going on. No one gives her any good answers.
But it means he is indeed down to watch the show, and so he's not going to kill them.
If Hera's gamble fails, they will tear each other apart. And his boss will never need to worry about Demigods again.
Jason feels like Khione is molesting him again, but this time the Phantom sensation of invasive cold fingers upon his pulse is brought on by the fact that this god is probably right.
Jason is a bad omen. A harbinger of worse to come.
He asks for an explanation. No one feels like giving him one.
Boreas declares that today is his day to be important In the affairs of God's. After all, on the edge of civilization he rarely has amusements. Just naked snow rolling festivals. (Zethes is a fan). But it is time to Seize the Moment! The storm spirits are in the city of wind (Chicago). If they can capture the winds, they can enter the court of Aeolus. Should they succeed, remember to tell him that Boreas sent him.
(Khione protested during this speech, but her father ignored her, and we should do the same)
The lady who controls the winds (in answer to Jason's question) is in Chicago, and she is a servant, one who will probably destroy them. Should they win and take the winds, they go to Aeolus. Being master of the winds means he hears all secrets eventually. He can tell them where Hera is. If Boreas told them, they would beg him to freeze them.
Jason's title has changed to Son of Jupiter for Boreas.
Khione protests again. They are apparently in the middle of an ongoing argument. I wonder if it will be relevant later.
Then he tells them to leave before he changes his mind, and leaves like a vampire, dissolving into Mist.
Zethes leads them back to Leo, who had apparently gotten a change of clothes. Leo starts to primp, much to Jason's worry.
Khione declares Piper hasn't fooled her, and Jason will become her ice statue one day.
Jason calls her a spoiled kid for that. She gets super mad about that. And apparently holds a grudge. According to her brothers.
“Shes the goddess of snow. What's she going to do, throw snowballs at us? “ Jason claims in bravado that maybe only fools Leo.
Leo is devastated that he can't ask her to prom. Piper claims that they will explain later, by which she means Jason will explain later.
Jason makes gods go Schizophrenic. He doesn't know why.
He does know that this God didn't let him go out of kindness, but the cruel excitement of “betting on a dog fight”
Zethes gives best wishes to Piper and regrets she won't become an ice stature.
Piper would rather play hockey with Cal. Jk.
No one will tell them the worse option they keep talking about. Not even if Piper smiles at them.
“He almost sounded like he cared about what happened to them, even if a few minutes ago he had wanted to make Piper an ice statue.”
Cal tells them they can have hockey and Pizza next time, and wishes them a very “Don't get destroyed.”
As much as Jason would like to get out of the freezing penthouse, this is the most hospitality they will get for awhile.
“Let's go to Chicago and try not to get destroyed.”
An apt sentiment for travelling to Chicago as a demigod.
