Borough of Ceri “Borgo di Ceri” was erected on the ancient Etruscan and then Roman site on top of a turf plateau about 50 Km north of Rome.
There, the ancient venerated the cult of the goddess Vesta. The Bourough as it stands today was founded in 1236. Since then many noble families owned the borough and surrounding properties such as the Borromeo, the Orsini and at last the Torlonia, which as of today still are owner of part of it. Inside lies the Romanesque church of the Madonna di Ceri. In 1980, during its restoration, frescoes from approximately the 12th century, representing some scenes drawn from Old Testament were discovered on a wall of the church building.
