Today’s lecture: Christianity Unique place in the world.
Today’s lecture is purely extra credit and is made in thank to @imperatrix-et-peccatrix . They commented:
While I can’t answer this for certain, I can offer hypotheses as to why such a perception would exist. I’m going to have to draw upon different studies; including but not limited to History, Humanities, and Sociology.
My first guess as to how such a perception occurs is that Christianity has taken on a major influence in the world at large. A vast amount of people residing in North America, South America, and Europe have been exposed to the Christian religion , with a healthy amount taking on the belief system. Christianity also constantly seeks to widen its believers count through its Missionary efforts.
There’s also a healthy amount of acceptance in modern society for the Christian faith, as Christianity influences an excessive amount of media. Were one willing to fiddle with the radio on on a American-cross-country-trip, they could probably get a Christian radio station as well as past many church billboards. In the millennial generation, Veggies tales influenced young viewers. Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang highlight Christian values in their Christmas special. Hallmark is proof that the Christmas holiday takes a somewhat ridiculous amount of attention with its showing of Christmas Hallmark Movie featured both in December, in July, and probably other months. The Book of the Bible itself has an impressive record of how many copies have been printed, in numerous languages mind you.
The saturation of Christian influence in modern society makes it highly likely that most people have a children’s Sunday school understand of the faith. In contrast, Jewish and Islamic influences is significantly lower. In fact, I’m willing to wager such with a game.
In the comments section of this post, we’re going to play a game called Media Madness. Since I’m willing to wager that the Christian Faith hold more influence than either Judaism or Islamism, I’ll be listing Media relating to that faith. In order to win the game from me, there needs to be a higher count of Judaic or Islamic media than Christian media.
Coming back to the conversation, if this imbalance of media influence and outreach to society is true, then it could be reason that the Christian faith sees more people blocking their posts or chastising them with their religious teachings because it’s been incorporated into their intake of knowledge more than other faiths.
The second point I would like to make pertains to the demographics of Christianity. It’s my opinion that that Christian faith hold the highest numbers of social conforming groups. Typically Male led. High numbers of non Hispanic Caucasian. Cis heterosexuals views are held. Christianity shouldn’t be considered a minority group. If anything, Christian a tend to present of the opposing sides of minority movements.
With these observations, we can begin to see why some Christians perceive that they are under an sense of scrutiny. However, I would criticize that sentiment on the grounds that the Christian community should be relieved. The tragedy that the community faced in World War II with the holocaust had a massive impact on the world. The Jewish community is still struggling to recover their culture to a healthy state. This comparisons makes Christians who complain that they get their Bible quoted to them seem like whining children.
Start of the new semester.
Literally bored to death. Due to the ECTS requirements we choose classes we don't actually care about. Studying, that was supposed to be fun, becomes a duty. Making this post during the lecture, pretty sure I don't miss any important info.
So far only one class has a teacher that just reads the PowerPoint, which is just info from the book. But I still need to figure out how to pay attention in that class.
