The Mortal Guard - Update 28: Boris Downing
Art by upperthorso
The world is against this 18-year old otter. At least, that’s what he thinks. A little after he came of this age, he discovered that he was possessed by an entity that calls itself Absalom. This entity told him that he would need to begin killing for him or those he would be care about would be killed, or worse things than that could happen. This creature communicates through reflections and Boris’ is permanently stuck in his what is called his Punk Boris form, no matter what the otter is wearing. Even if he’s shirtless. Reflections are also how Absalom hands Boris the Blade of the Mirror, which is his weapon throughout the story and can appear from any reflection. At first, Boris was rightfully terrified of this change, so he told Nick and showed him the Pseudo. He and Nick have been friends for years and are in the band Water on Fire, but most of all it’s Boris’ absolute terror that makes Nick want to save him. Absalom communicated that that was a huge mistake and murdered a school bully in front of the otter to demonstrate his power. Boris didn’t tell anyone else for fear of getting them killed. In the timeline we follow, Boris kidnaps Tyler in the very beginning and takes him on a twisted road trip full of murder and danger. Boris comes from a wealthy family that lives in a mansion, so his mannerisms are a bit prudish and he speaks rather formally. He wears suits more often than not and very direct with others on how he feels about things they do. Despite all this, Boris still wants to change for the better but believes there’s no hope now.
