Boiling Point || Vaughn&Neil

“Mac, buddy...” Neil looked down at the Australian Shepherd, the herding dog looking back up at Neil with a wagging tail. Well, more like it was shaking its entire rear end, considering he didn’t have much tail to wag in the first place. “When did you get so... husky...” Somehow, Mac had gained enough weight for it to become visible. The dog still herded the animals just fine, and he was just as energetic as ever. Yet, somehow, the dog had become... chunkier. With so much energy being spent all day, one would think Mac would maintain a normal weight.
Neil sighed as he stood near the food bin that held Mac’s kibble. As much as he wanted to lower the food intake to help control the weight on the young dog, Neil didn’t want to starve the poor guy. Plus, Mac was sitting there so excited and looking at him with those eyes... Neil huffed and undid the top of the bin, only to find that the food was much lower than he remembered it being. Had they really gone through so much in such a short time?
“Just how much is that asshole feeding you?” Neil asked Mac with raised brows. The aforementioned asshole was none other than the man who had, without much warning, begun avoiding Neil as much as possible. Ever since that night on Valentine’s Day, Vaughn had hardly said so much as a full sentence of more than five words at a time to Neil.
And it was beginning to piss Neil off.
He hadn’t done anything wrong. At least, he didn’t think he had. The lack of communication was starting to interfere with work, too. Chores were being done twice, animals were being let out or brought back in too early or too late. Neil had little doubt that Vaughn was likely feeding Mac when Neil had already done so, or vice versa.
As if on cue, Vaughn entered the barn and Neil turned to him with a deep scowl.
“Oi, are you feeding Mac too much? He’s getting overweight.”
