Been a while since I did a Borscht Bakes post.
Baked Good: Red velvet cupcakes
Process: went well, no major hiccups but I had to substitute the buttermilk with yogurt mixed with normal milk. Added way more Vanilla extract then I should have, but that's normal.
Final outcome: I think the most successful thing I've made in a while. Goes great with the cream, though Its a bit to sweet. Not as Light and Fluff ™ as I was hoping but that's probably because of the lack of buttermilk.
Maybe next time I'll actually make Borscht
What I made: chocolate cheesecake brownies, as a present for Mother being another year closer to death
The process: pretty chill! The only hiccup was I didn't preheat the oven enough so I ended up baking it for 45 mins instead of 30, and we ran out of vanilla essence a few months ago :(
Final result: SIGNIFICANTLY more successful then the other baking attempts I've shared on here. It's a bit heavy, and I do wish it had cooked through more, but still edible and quite good withe tea. Unfortunately I'm not in a sweet mood today, but the family seems to have liked it. 8/10
Second installment of Borscht Bakes! Pls ignore the wine
Baked Good: Medovik, Russian honey cake
Cooking process: went well enough, I actually made it yesterday then put it the fridge, so I don't run remember much of it.
Final product: ehhhh, didn't put enough cream between layers so it's to dry :(( I'm also having shitty cramps so I couldn't eat more then two bites. Maybe it will taste better in the morning.
I'm gonna start posting my cooking projects here on Tumblr so I have somewhere I can look back on them !
Types of cookies: Pryaniki, essentially a Russian gingerbread cookie
Cooking process: one of the worst ones I've had in a while. Genuinely awful experience. This is actually slightly old dough, I baked the first half like two weeks ago and it was fine! But for some reason the kitchen spirit or whatever was mad at me today. First batch burned. Their batch wasn't cooked enough. Last batch almost burned. When I tried getting the out of the oven I burned my finger and spilled coffee and milk over the whole counter. The icing was to liquid so I ended up using a chopstick instead of a piping bag
Final product: was not worth the baking experience. Most of the cookies were cooked too long so they're not soft enough. Alot of them are also to thin. I'll still eat them tho.
Overall thoughts: 4/10
