About the Boryeong Mud Festival
The Boryeong Mud Festival is a very popular festival in South Korea. It is usually held annually in July and last for about two weeks. But the last weekend is very famous and popular, the whole festival attracts about 2.2 million visitors yearly. The Boryeong Mud festival usually takes place in the city of Boryeong at Daecheon Beach. The mud for the festival is gotten from the Boryeong mud flats which were trucked to the beach where it is used in creating mud baths, mudslides, and mud swims.
Boryeong mud festival first started in 1998 and was an advertising initiative by a cosmetic company that uses the mud from Boryeong in manufacturing its products. The company wanted to showcase and celebrate the numerous benefits Boryeong mud had to offer. The festival grew to prominence and became one of the most popular festivals in the region.
Boryeong mud festival boasts of a lot of fun and engaging activities. These activities have a wide appeal and are suitable for different people with different tastes. Some of these activities include mud skiing, mud swimming, wallowing in mud, wrestling in mud, face painting, music, and dance competitions. Tourists can also buy cosmetic products made from the mud at a small market. There are also beauty clinics available were tourists can enjoy several beauty and health treatments. Children can also enjoy this festival, there are small mud pools available for them. There are also parties, beauty pageants and firework shows at the event.
