2016 Bosingak Bell-ringing Ceremony
So to see out the this year in Korea and bring in the new year, One of the long held traditional celebrations is the Bosingak Bell Ringing Ceremony which obviously will be held on midnight of December 31, 2015. Just like last year, 11 honorary guests will be chosen to ring the bell a total 33 times. I have no idea on how they decided on 33 times though to be honest. Aside from the actual ceremony itself, there will be other special performances and events for visitors to take in and enjoy.
Bosingak is a large bell pavilion that you can find in Jongno, Seoul, South Korea. The bell in Bosingak gives Jongno its name, which means “bell street.” It was originally erected in 1396 but destroyed many times by both war and fires. It is opposite the Samsung tower so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find. Also the Cheonggyecheon is close by to so make sure to refer to the map at the bottom of this post to help you get there in good time.
To get there by Subway simply take Line 1 to Jonggak Station and make sure to head to exit 4 or 5. There is loads of buses that will bring you to Jongno. All these buses will take you to and back from the ceremony. Blue Bus:
