A strange dream from last night
I woke up from a really strange dream that actually made some sort of sense.
It seemed to start out on some sort of beach and heading into some sort of jungle to hunt some treasure, right? There was some sort of area where we had to build a bridge to get across a deep river with exceptionally clear and still water. All the materials we had were useless and we failed multiple times until the person guiding us revealed they already had (really shoddy) bridge pieces made of branches that they never used because of other people possibly following them across.
So we use those anyways and get to some sort of jungle temple. It’s somewhat futuristic and made of a teal-ish stone, and suddenly I was watching as if I were in a cutscene. Apparently I was playing as the Saints Row model of Talon, likely a result of playing the game for a few hours over the past few days, and the group consisting of one faceless man and two strange children (both the guides, apparently) were talking with him.
“Okay, when we get in there, you’re going to need to raise the lever until the light turns brown.” (inside of the temple was a black rectangle in the wall with an old-fashioned, T-shaped lever) “But if it stays on brown for too long, the entire temple will melt down.”
So Talon-- apparently I was watching, still-- pulls the lever just enough for the lighting within the hole in the wall to turn brown. He stops pulling and suddenly, the light inside flashes to yellow and the entire temple immediately begins to have a meltdown. Everyone is crushed by boulders, there’s a quick game over screen with a continue option, which is the only option, and everyone appears outside of the temple again.
“Okay, this time, you’re going to pull the lever only to brown.”
“Okaaay, but last time I did that, it suddenly turned yellow when I let go of it.” Talon says back to them as they all walk inside the temple. He heads towards the lever. He turns around before he pulls it. “What’s gonna change this time?”
“Well, this time, this is going to change.”
The kid grinned maliciously and stabs Talon through the torso with a spike that comes out of nowhere. There’s a massive, gaping hole where his heart is. He’s bleeding.
“The hell... You... fucking traitor...”
“You messed up too many times. Now die.”
They pull the spike out and Talon collapses. My camera view is a top-down view of his bleeding, dying body. He bleeds on the floor for a full minute as their feet can be seen walking around him. The temple begins to melt down again, and I get a game over screen.
The only option is continue.
After that very first fuck-up with the yellow lever, this is the only cutscene that plays. An endless loop. There is no stopping it until I reset a machine that I was not able to see, but since seeing the game over screens, I sensed it was there. Presumably a computer or gaming console.
They’re back at the river. I can play again. At the temple, Talon does not pull the lever. There is no dialogue as they stab him again.
