Visiting Haunted Boston Pt 1: The Oldest Cemeteries (plus a flood, a treasure and a tiny, tiny house)
A look at the haunted history of Boston's oldest cemeteries, plus some other fun history and oddities.
Happy 4th of July! To celebrate the holiday, I thought I’d take a look back at a recent trip to Boston and show ya the highlights, starting with its oldest cemeteries and the history and hauntings associated with each. For a person born in the Chicago-area, who then lived in Los Angeles, these are some tremendously old cemeteries compared to what I’m used to. How old? Well, the first cemetery on…

Boston Light the first American Lighthouse located on Boston Harbor’s Little Brewster Island.
Known by many as the cursed lighthouse, Boston Light was built in 1716 and runed by candles later whale oil, , reaches 27 miles to survey the harbor. It was called cursed because many of its keepers died in mostly unexplained accidents. The British blew it up in 1776 during the Revolutionary War, but it was rebuilt in 1783, making it one of the oldest lighthouses in the USA. Following a series if repairs and improvements in 1809, 1844 and 1859, the Boston Light continues to serve until the current day.
Since 2003 it has had a female keeper, Dr Sally Snowman.

Moonrise above Boston Light, a timelapse video of the previous post. When I shared that image on @natgeotravel page today some believed it’s photoshopped, not knowing about my 2 decades career in night sky photography, and not familiar with these type of extreme telephoto shots where the foreground is far enough to appear smaller than the moon disc. I thought this video would help! Located on Little Brewster Island, Boston Light was originally built in 1716, making it the America’s first lighthouse. Soundtrack is by

The Oldest Lighthouse in the United States Has Seen 300 + Years of Service
When the Boston Light was first lit in 1716, the world was a very different place: the American revolution was almost five decades away, ships took months to cross the Atlantic Ocean and the lighthouse guided them into the harbor using just a simple flame and a lens.
Its sits about 10 miles offshore from Boston on a tiny rocky island. During the course of its service, the simple stucco lighthouse has welcomed everything from Revolution-era warships to massive modern shipping liners into the Boston Harbor.

BOSTON LIGHT Boston, Massachusetts
When built: 1783
The ghost of an old sailor has been spotted several times by keepers at this lighthouse, also known as the Boston Head Light. The vicinity gets unexplained cold when the phantom is sighted. Footfalls of something unseen has been heard walking the stairs of the tower, and a cat has hissed at whatever invisible force was making a rocking chair move on its own.
Most notable is the ghost’s apparent dislike of rock-and-roll music. When Coast Guard personnel would tune their radio to a rock station, the tuner would suddenly jump down the bandwidth to a classical music station.
Hi all, it’s me!
