I know that it's more likely that Atem's body turned to dust when he sealed his soul in the puzzle but the screwed up part of my brain keeps thinking what if his body was left intact.
He would of gotten his proper burial, sure... But even now people still dig up mummies for study and display and Atem's tomb wasn't exactly hidden.
Maybe one of the gang was browsing through pharaoh 3d recreations on the internet only to stop dead that something so close to their friend is staring back at them.
For the first time they can realistically visit their friend like they could a grave, but would they want to see their friend like that?
