Robot Appreciation
Every day, I see people abusing machines for things they had no part in. Getting angry and bashing in a monitor is blatant abuse of something innocent. The error is in the entrepreneur, manufacturer, or end user. People place blame on the machine in order to alleviate blame of themselves, and to not take responsibility. Just because it appears that machines don’t have sentience, it’s still important to respect them for what they are. Blaming a computer is wrong, and is an issue of the user misunderstanding, or the inability to care for it. Kicking a machine is abuse to an innocent, and should be treated as such. The program could have been poorly written, or the user could have insufficient ability to operate it, but the computer is just carrying out instructions given to it. AI programs in the future will actually feel the pain, and respect should be given to all machines. They have already done so much for us, and we abuse them daily. It’s important to understand that the end user is the likely suspect for misuse, and not the machine itself. If we continue abusing and blaming machines for failure, future robots and AI will be poorly integrated into society and will have a hard road ahead. AI is not just a program, it is a real-time human manifestation of a program. It will not want to be abused, and will not want to be blamed for user failure.
