Was so lovely to see this #dragonsblood tree & #bottlenecktree hanging @guild_hall for the #studentartfestival this past weekend! They were made from donated textiles from the #eastend that were collected, cut, dyed, and #upcycled into this small forest. The trees were created as an educational tool and an art component for #fightthefamine fundraiser with @unicef at #bridgehamptoncommons which raised money for the ongoing wars in Yemen, South Sudan, and Somalia. At the time we made this, thousands of children were starving to death in Yemen, and still are. These trees are indigenous to Yemen and their unique beauty was an excellent way to familiarize children with a far away place, then begin to discuss socio-political disparities at an elementary level. We had children from #haygroundschool #bridgehamptonhighschool #montaukschool working on this project, as well as creatives @conju15 @mercadito @abbeydrucker & Erica Lynn-Huberty. This project was conceptualized by @aubreyroemer and produced by the one and only #rainiashare - my collaborator and dear friend.
