ptxmitchie made a great point in their ask; one of the problems faced by gay/lesbian couples in a heteronormative society is that one of them is expected to act masculine and the other feminine in order to mimic heterosexuality, and people cast Harry in a submissive role because of his appearance/behaviors that are not typically masculine plays right into that. So while I’m sure plenty of bL fans are guilty of the same thing, saying bL is more heteronormative than bH is, simply, hypocritical.
Yes that is a very good point! And you are right there are some bL people who do that. And honestly I’m sure I could be accused of doing the same thing with some of my fics. (I write Mpreg! and Louis in lace) But like you said it’s extremely hypocritical of them to to call us heteronormative and homophobic when they are doing the same things.
The great thing about being apart of this fandom is everyone is exploring their own sexuality and they way they look at the world. There is no right way or wrong way. Everyone is different and that means everyone’s relationships are going to be different, there is no set standard of being.
I think what frustrates me the most about the bL hate is that they say its heteronormative, yet support their bH opinion by saying he wears nail polish... That's literally the epitome of heteronormativity! I am a huge fan of bL, and I actually stopped using my 1D blog (that at the time had 5K followers) because I couldn't stand how gross some people were. The amount of times I saw posts saying 'Louis would puke if he saw people writing him bottom' made me want to puke at their homophobia :/
I’m so sorry that all the hate you saw made you stop running your 1D blog and this is the kind of thing I have been saying. Seeing so much hate can destroy all the fun you are having. When I first joined the fandom I read both fics, I didn’t care who was getting it as long as some one was. I even started writing a switch fic but after seeing the amount of bL hate there was, then the emergence of the “Harry is a girl” tag and all the fics with emotionally manipulative Louis and “perfect bottom” Harry who never did anything wrong, I couldn’t take it anymore. I lost all interest in bH and I hate that. I hate feeling cut off from a part of the fandom that I used to really enjoy. And people can tell me that all bH fics aren’t like that but after all of this, and the hate that I have gotten over just writing bL, it’s hard to go back. And don’t even get me started on the “Harry Tomlinson” trend, now that makes me sick.
Do you want people who have received hate over bl to send you the anon message if we have got one?
If anyone feels comfortable sharing it with me, that would be really helpful in making my longer post. I really think it is one or a group of people who are doing this. I also want to make it clear that if anyone who sends me their bL hate isn’t comfortable sharing their URL I won’t. I just really want us all to stick together and to know we are not alone in this.

i think we should just ignore them. do not give them any attention. idk about the other bottom louis stans but my love for bottom louis is purely my own preference. i've never claim to know who tops or who bottoms (they kind of share that really) and i know the differences between my own fantasy and reality. these anons are nasty and creating unnecessary hates and accusing every bottom louis stans and it's childish. don't feed them attention.
I understand what you are saying. And I have never claimed to know what they do in the bedroom. I just prefer to write bL. The problem with ignoring these hate anons is they don’t go away. When I get this hate it doesn’t bother me and in the past have just ignored it but I know some bloggers/writers/fan artist are bothered by it. Some to the point that they stop blogging/writing/drawing and I want that to end. I want them to know they aren’t alone. It can be really isolating when you get this type of hate, especially if you are a smaller blog and maybe don’t have friends to talk to about it. I’m ranting now, sorry, I’m just tired of seeing people bullied for doing something they enjoy.
the bl anon hater is from canada btw
Thank you for the info, I wish I was more internet savvy so I could figure that out. LOL

holy fuck, that is disturbing
It is, I really don’t like it. I thankfully have a thicker skin and don’t take it personally but other’s might not and this kind of stuff can really affect them
