Is it at all possible for someone like me to get medically sterilized? I'm 18, nonbinary, and I don't want HRT. I have a lot of reproductive dysphoria. I don't want kids, and I shouldn't have them anyway due to my mental health being extremely hormone-sensitive and having mildly severe dysautonomia, which makes my circulation very bad. I very much want some way to reduce my reproductive dysphoria. I live in the US, in a generally very liberal area (Seattle).
I can’t tell if you’re asking if it would be possible to have everything removed (ovaries, uterus, tubes) with no further HRT (at your age, even in a liberal area, it’s not likely but i’ve known people who were able to manage it). as we’ve discussed before there’s a severe risk of multiple health risks from early surgical menopause (heart attack, stroke, mental health concerns, early death, broken bones and disability, etc). If you’re simply just asking about any form of medical sterilization, i think it’s much more likely, in Seattle or another liberal area. Things like tubal ligation, endometrial ablation are generally considered permanent but do not carry the same risks as removing native hormones at such an early age. You may find some doctors give you difficulties based on your age, and depending on the source of payment (insurance, private pay, state insurance), you may have additional hoops to jump through. If necessary, continue to appeal any denials. Denial on the basis of age is illegal under of federal law. Mod mayhem
