im sure you get this a lot but the wait is killing me, it's 3 years here.

14-16 months for the first intake phone call, then 3 ish months after that to see a surgeon, 10 months of hair removal, 2nd consultation, waiting for surgery date....

do you have any advice? im also homeless rn which doesnt help at all

First of all, never apologize for sending me an ask. I do this because I genuinely want to help folks.

As for the wait, it's incredibly difficult. Recent increases in a combination of visibility and a broader community understanding of bottom surgery have made the lack of available surgeons and resources very apparent and we've kinda just been left to navigate it on our own.

The only real advice I can give is to seek out distractions and projects where you can. I understand that homelessness being part of the situation may complicate things for you, but my general advice still stands for the most part.

Seek out library clubs and classes or community center programs that give you an opportunity to interact with other people regularly and have a short-term goal to keep your mind occupied. A lot of libraries will have free classes or arts and crafts programs that can be an amazing way to keep your mind occupied.

I also recommend spending as much time with other members of the local trans community as you can. There will inevitably be others dealing with the same problems who you'll be able to commiserate with. Being with community and strengthening those bonds will also come in handy later when you're healing and need support for basic functions like cooking meals or cleaning dilators.

There's also the matter of exercise. Cardio helps significantly with overall blood flow, which is essential to healing. You will also want to work on exercises that strengthen your core and pelvic floor muscles. A stronger pelvic floor will not only help with healing overall, but an understanding of how to manipulate those muscles will make it much easier to relax the pelvic floor for dilation, which can mean the difference between a comfortable and simple dilation experience and a painful and discouraging one.

At the end of the day, it's about keeping busy and finding community to remind yourself that you aren't alone in this. Other folks are welcome and encouraged to add things that they found helpful with the wait or other advice they might have.
