Day 5 - Guardian

“Link! Save yourself, go! I will be fine.Don’t worry about me. Run!” ..... “NO!” - Memory Twelve
I never played Zelda games before BotW. Okay that is a lie. In 2011 I bought the Ocarina of Time on the 3DS, played about 5 hours of it, and when I got stuck in the first dungeon, I said I shall not believe that Zelda games are good. “I will never spend my money on Zelda again.” I said, and also failed.
But I always think of Breath of The Wild as the game that made me an emotional oversensitive wreck. The fact I did not know what the overal Zelda story usually is, I started the game clueless alongside similarly clueless Link, who did not remember anything of Hyrule, and neither did I. Learning about the world and the story through the memories was just.. muah, what a way.
When I finally got them all and hurried to tell Impa triumphaly only for her to be sending me to Hyrule too look for the last memory, oh gosh I raged. I did not look up the location on the internet, I actually roamed around Kakariko to find the spot. And when I did and when I watched the memory, oh gosh, I cried like a little child. LINK, MY BABY!
Anyway, rewatching the memory over and over before starting the illustration was painful. Took me a while to decide on what I wanted to draw before I settled on what always stuck to me - Link determined to protect Zelda no matter what. “Her appointed knight gives his life, shields her figure and pays the price.”  In here my too much gene absolutely betrayed me. I inked the illustration and then took out my watercolours. And butchered it, absolutely butchered it. But thankfully, I took a photo of the inked illustration before the disaster and managed to salvage it in procreate.  And I even tried to fill it in all digitally.
I really thought that this was a major step down after Day 4 illustration that was so detailed. Well wasn’t I wrong. It somehow really exploded on instagram. I hope it reached many of Zelda fans and I hope they felt the intense feelings I did when I was drawing it.
I am really a massive enthusiast when it comes to Zelda x Link. They are such a natural pairing.
