finally descending out of the fog - Haute Route Pyreneenne, August 2019
the day out of the Spanish ski-resort of Salardu was one of the harder ones on the HRP. It started drizzling when I just started my way up the mountain and pretty soon I was hiking through dense fog for the rest of the day. at the very top the boulder strewn landscape was so disorientating in the fog that the only reason I didn’t get hopelessly lost was by just sticking to the line of the gps trail no matter how badly I thought I was going the wrong way.
after a pretty steep, scary, and tiring descent to this point, I could finally see daylight again. which was apparently distracting, because I fell pretty badly around this point and nearly broke my arm. the only thing that prevented my from setting up my tent at the little patch of grass near the lake on the right was the knowledge that there was a cabin just below the next lake, and while it took wayyy longer to get there than I thought, it was really nice to finally be out of the wind there.
