Democratic Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards wins re-election
As a Communist, of course I will never put extensive energy behind the election of a Bourgeois Politician like Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards here in Louisiana.
But the Workers of our State and myself are of course glad he has won re-election over the Far-Right lunatic Eddie Rispone, the epitome of the Bourgeoisie openly entering Politics themselves instead of depending on corrupt Bourgeois Politicians who might occasionally have to throw a bone to the Working Class.
This has been a worrisome pattern in US Politics over the last decade, and has led to crises like the Flint Michigan poisoning of the water systems.
Luckily here in Louisiana, Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards is one of the Conservative Democratic Governors who's been forced to throw a bone to Workers in Louisiana, which came in the form of the expansion of Medicaid two years ago.
Had Eddie Rispone won the Governorship, we likely would have lost this gain, so without question we are glad John Bel Edwards has won re-election.
But let's be honest about who John Bel Edwards is. He's the same Governor who has passed the most restrictive Abortion Law in the country. He's failed to restrain rent increases in New Orleans and failed to raise wages or even the Minimum Wage which doesn't exist in Louisiana and therefore reverts to the stagnant Federal Minimum.
John Bel Edwards also gave the keynote Speech at a Louisiana meeting of ALEC. The Super-Conservative American Legislative Exchange Council of which he is a supporter of their pro-Corporate, Neoliberal Privatization and anti-Worker agenda.
And still, despite this Far-Right record, John Bel Edwards was the best we could hope for under our Bourgeois Electoral System determined to crush Worker Rights and Unionization, continue unquestioned White Supremacy, and poisoning our communities with the unchecked growth of the Fossil Fuel extraction, processing and Chemical manufacturing sectors.
But a gain for Workers in the form of Medicaid is still a gain we're willing to fight to keep, and one we're thankful is protected for another four years.
Without a Worker Revolution, Socialist Organizing and violent insurrection, nothing is going to change in Louisiana. Which is why the education and organizing work done by Organizations such as the Marxist-Leninist New Orleans Worker's Group, of which I am a member, is so important in beginning the work of building a true Socialist Movement. In the meantime, we must be satisfied to protect what little we've managed to win.
So just a bit of Materialist analysis of mine now that John Bel Edwards has been declared the winner in this most Conservative State in the Nation, Louisiana.
