Moving Boxes: How to Effectively Pack Your House for a Big Move
Moving can be fun. Especially with these tips, you’ll make the transition from your old home to your new one smooth and stress-free.
Who says moving can’t be fun? The principal task of packing is somewhat as elaborate as dealing with all the paperwork involved. But regardless of how stressful the situation may get, it’s easy to survive a move to another state. These techniques will help you stay well-organized, pack effectively and unpack without rummaging through all your moving boxes, looking for things.
How to Effectively Pack Your House for a Big Move:
Steps
Get rid of all the things you haven’t used in the past couple of years. If you haven’t used it in the last 2 years, chances are, you never will in your new home. Rather than packing them and transporting them with you, leave all your useless stuff behind.
Start packing the minute you know you are moving. A lot of delays may occur if you wait until the last minute to get started. As soon as your move is final, go through your home and start packing all things you know you won’t need until the move is completed. You may begin at the basement, shed, and attic before moving to a different room.
Boldly mark all moving boxes with the new room name and exact details of its contents. Most moving boxes have small sections pre-printed where you can tick off the specific room the box is intended for. Don’t forget to label the moving boxes on all sides, since lifting boxes to check where the box underneath belongs is tiring and, surely, annoying.
Assign every single box a number and keep a record book listing each box number and details of its contents. When you need to use your favorite coffee mug, it’s a lot easier to look it up on your notebook instead of ripping through your moving boxes marked “Kitchen.” If it’s in box #5, then locate box #5.
For those essential items you know you’ll use as soon as you get to your new home, mark the boxes with a unique symbol like a star, a heart or an asterisk. As soon as you get at the new house, assign an area for these items and inform the mover that all boxes with your symbol should go in that area. Doing so, rather than looking through a pile of boxes for a toothbrush, will help you find it in the designated area for essential moving boxes. New York-based moving companies will gladly offer you assistance every step of the way.
If you are moving with small children and young adults, have the movers load the kid’s rooms into the moving truck last. By doing so, these rooms are unloaded first. You may start removing the stretch plastic wrap and arrange the kid’s rooms while the movers are busy unloading the rest of the cargo and they will be ready to settle in their new room the very first night.
While packing, be sure to have the right moving supplies.
