Hey everyone, welcome back! I have my final thoughts on my Boxycharm subscription box for the month of Feburary 2017. If you'd like to hear my opinions on the products that were in my box, please keep reading.
Boxycharm is a $21 USD a month beauty subscription service. I pay an additional $4.95 USD for shipping to Canada, but I am more than happy to do so because I find the value in Boxycharm to be exceptional for the price, especially this month in particular. You get 4-5 full sized items every month, unlike Ipsy which can vary. The items I received this month were the Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion exfoliator, two eyeshadows from Makeup Geek, a set of two eye brushes from Royal & Langnickel, a small size Z Palette and a lipgloss from the brand Juice Beauty.
I'm not a huge lipgloss fan. If I had to choose between lipgloss and a balm, I chose the balm far more often for the sheer simplicity of it. This product has a bit of a gritty texture due to the glitter particles, but the gloss itself melts beautifully into the lips and is very moisturizing. I don't tend to wear lip products in this particular shade either so I feel like this item was a bit of a miss for me.
Can I say that I was ecstatic to receive the Dr. Brandt skincare product? This item alone retails for $98 CAD and I couldn't dream of purchasing it in Sephora at my current skincare budget. For this reason I really love services like Boxycharm because it makes your expendable income stretch a lot further than it would normally and you get to try things that you might not think to choose out yourself. I felt this was a bit intense as I've never used a microdermabrasion exfoliator before but after letting my skin calm down a bit it did feel much softer and quite plump. My face was a bit shiny the next day but with continued usage I feel like this side effect has lessened. A little bit goes a very long way so this tube will last a very long time considering it's only meant for weekly to twice weekly usage.
I have not tried Royal & Langnickel makeup brushes before now, although I have tried some of their painting brushes in the past and they are some of my favourites. The quality is excellent and they pick up and blend out products flawlessly. I use the short stubby synthetic brush with the copper handle to smudge out my lower lash line or to apply cream eye shadow base and glitter glue. The fluffy brush with the gold handle is excellent for applying colour all over the lid and blowing out a blending colour.
This is also my first time ever getting to try Makeup Geek products, and I have to say I am very impressed. The two colours I received are Prom Night and Cherry Cola, which I think are colours I would have chosen myself ordering from the site itself. They're a bit of a stiffer formula, but they blend out superbly and are easily built up if you desire a more intense look. Prom Night is a metallic taupe but has multicoloured sparkles which make it more interesting and give it a unique feature. Easily wearable for a one shadow look. Cherry Cola makes an awesome crease colour or to smudge over the lower lash line and is very matte.
Finally I have my first ever Z Palette! This is the small size and fits 9 round magnetic eyeshadow pans and comes with several small metallic plates to stick onto any pans you have that might not be magnetic. I have been meaning to buy one of these and couldn't justify the shipping cost for just one. It's my home for several things I've been meaning to depot such as my sample of Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer as well as two small samples of products I have from The Balm. I love it! It really helped me get rid of some extraneous packages for tiny products.
Even though one product in here for me was a bit of a disappointment, I really feel like there was a ton of value in this Boxycharm box. Most of the items were things I did not already have and had planned to buy or try in the future and it made it a lot easier for me, consdering most companies charge a lot of shipping to Canada. I understand it's quite expensive but it makes it a lot more difficult for Canadians to try new brands so services like Boxycharm really help me out in that aspect. Thanks for reading! ^^
