I love gay fiction that reference orpheus and eurydice
Acho que posso voltar a desejar um Ivan pra mim 😥
There is no Eurydice
pt.2 of the name
This might seem a bit sudden but what if it means the journey of Orpheus traveling all the way to the underworld knowing he might not make it out alive but does still end up doing it for his love Eurydice and tries to bring her back to the world of the living aligns with Kim Heejae searching for gems as a way of trying to bring back the manager in a way.
As we see the first person he lets into his world , someone who accepts him as he is but in the end even the manager he loves quite dearly ends up leaving.
We see how Kim brings his students to art museums paralleling the way he used to spend time with the manager and how the students are seemingly a way for him to seal the hole in his heart.
but the main difference is the way he treats them.
All of his students are taught by making them hate him in order to make good music as a result. But the line between love and hatred is a thin line as we see in Garam's case that Garam despite everything still stays and wants to be by his side.
Maybe this parallels how Orpheus tries to bring Eurydice back to the land of the living but inevitably fails as he does look back. In Kim's case it's because of the past that still haunts him even now showing how he looks back even when he is with Garam, he still haunted by the past.
Showing how the manager or moreover the past is holding him back and causing him to look back and end up seeing Eurydice be pulled back to the underworld.
There is no eurydice
I feel like the name itself means something more as well.
I don't think Orpheus in the manhwa is not meant to be Han Garam but rather Kim Heejae as according to the myth it's said that Orpheus's music had the ability to move even the gods.
He during his quest in the underworld in some variations of the story makes Hades cry with his beautiful music, the reason of how he even remains alive is because of his music and the effect it has on other beings down there.
Taking this in a literal stance, in the story though Garam's music is quite beautiful ,serene and calming like he is. The major focus is on Kim Heejae we see it with his students and people in his daily life that they absolutely despise him but can't help but love his music.
His music is the major part of him, scratch that it is him.
Without it, he's nothing more than well nothing.
His most remarkable aspect is his music.
Then the title seems kinda of eluding as the main part of the myth is the fact of why did Orpheus look back when he could have reunited with his love after taking one last step. The major reasonthat is speculated is love, he looked back because he loved her. Some say that Hades knew from the beginning and that's why he even suggested such an deal as he knew Orpheus loved Eurydice and would indeed look back.
But what does that mean for the manhwa then as the english translation of the title is there is no Eurydice.
Does Eurydice mean Han Garam in this interpretation or something more. In the first half during Garam's time in Korea in the university the Orpheus performance was what he has been working towards and could have achieved if not for Na-eun's bodyguard. Does the disrupted Orpheus performance mean something more like to symbolise their broken relationship at this point in the story.
Though the university arc is very painful to see as Garam basically sacrifices everything for this.
Because of Kim Heejae all he cares about is perfecting his sound and nothing else.
If Youngjo wasn't there, he really wouldn't have even bothered to leave his practice room or try to enjoy his college life that's not to say that Youngjo is partly responsible for ruining it too.
In later chapters, during the time of his debut wherein he performs the same piece that he does during the Orpheus performance, despite initially being against it does end up doing because of Kim Heejae but for the complete different reason compared to the beginning.
There is a stark contrast showing how the prior agony of the piece replaced with love because of Kim Heejae more over the change in his feelings for Kim Heejae.
That's just my thoughts as of now.
There is no eurydice
I've been reading a korean manwha by the name no more eurydice or there is no Eurydice.
It's a truly beautiful story that has consumed my very being. Even when I'm not reading it I can't stop thinking about it or analyzing moments and scenes trying to better understand what i've read or think about what would it mean for the characters from this point onwards.
So i've decided to use this platform as a sort of way to figure out my thoughts.
I'll start by mentioning how i even gotten interested in no more eurydice.
I at first thought it was your typcial run of the mill professor x student story inspired by whiplash and kinda just that. Considering the cover which was part of the reason why i read it and the name which i can't help but think was such a coincidence as i had just heard about the myth behind Orpheus and eurydice.
In all on honesty , i didn't think Han garam and Kim Heejae were going to be the main couple when Youngjo was introduced i was thought oh the fuckboy is the ml and the relationship between Han Garam and Kim Heejae is meant to be like the main focus as it's a major aspect of Garam's life.
Then the US arc occured and I was confused and then I slowly realized the whole plot has been building up to this very moment. The main focus has and always will be the relationship between Kim Heejae and Han Garam.
That's all i have to say for now, I will continue soon but this was definitely where i knew i was in for the long hall as i actually did think about dropping the story when Youngjo and Garam became a couple.
I thought i knew where the story was going, a story about healing on both their parts(youngjo and garam) and Garam's straight up tyrant of a mentor.
until next time
