zen, my darling zen, best boy, is a softspoken sweetheart and a slut. and he's beloved so dearly by all of his boyfriends. he is also autistic and good with plants and nature and a poet. he loves getting lost in the woods, which is how he starts most of his adventures. he is technically very good at violence but he wouldn't say that's necessarily a good thing. i started with a sweet, kind barbarian who's always down for a good time and the rest just sort of followed. In a group dynamic, what kind of role does the oc usually fill? Are they a worry wart? A troublemaker? The straight man?

Zen is the one everyone dotes on, he's the glue that holds the polycule together, he's the peacemaker, he's the observer. he's going to watch and wait and will probably tell you what he thinks if you ask him, but it's going to be the truth, lol. he will wait to be invited to join basically anything and would prefer being directly propositioned to like, subtle flirting and understated cues. cam loves watching people flirt with him bc it goes grandly over his head unless they're very direct

i have at least 5 aus for him now, maybe more? i started him out with cam, thought it would be fun for them to invite a third, and then in the villain au there was a secret dragon and that became ryden, the 4th boyfriend. so i dont even know how ryden fits in the original story but. they just do it's fine. zen was originally a pc i made for a bad bad dumb terrible game and i rescued him and gave him a home and three boyfriends who love him to bits and he is happy

Seb is a minotaur!! He was the tavern-keeper in Zen's original world, and I wrote a scene where zen was crushing on him and cam was like lol if you're not going to talk to him, im calling him over here. and it spiraled from there. initially he was like, a background character and once i drew him to the front i put in more work on the back end, but initially the question was, what would be bigger than zen, and still kissable, and maybe also soft, boom minotaur. and then i made him look like a highland cow with glasses bc i thought that was sweet, and also bc the idea of a minotaur bartender in a lot of worlds would evoke something violent and bestial and seb is just a guy! he's just some dude. and he really sees himself that way, like he was kind of stuck being an npc and one day he got yanked into being something more than that and being loved and treasured and wanted for more than what he does and it was incredibly transformative, like, seb's not a violent guy but he would kill in a heartbeat for zen. and also cam and ry, but especially zen. in a group, seb can kind of default to being the straight man but he's actually goofy and sweet and funny and is into some wild stuff, i think he's pretty used to being invisible, and then cam pulls him in and he's like, okay what do you want me to be, and the two of them are like?? you, dingus. as a bartender he has kind of a reputation for being the Sober One, but rile him up and watch him go. or get him soft and dreamy and watch how romantic he can be...

i think i especially love that he's like, a full adult man that's like, coming into himself as a person, and he's like holy shit, why did it take me this long, and it just goes to show that you have never met all the people that are going to love you, and someone could come into your life at any time and you could suddenly see the whole world in a different light... that's romance baebye

for Zen it was initially bc it was funny-- a barbarian named zen, haha so peaceful yeah--but then i got really attached!! and then calling him zeni is even sweeter ahh...my softspoken sweetheart... he doesn't have a last name, partially bc i haven't given his dad a name, because he sucks and doesn't deserve one, and even so like, in the original plot he ditched his group of orcs the moment he had a chance and feels no connection to where he's come from. in a modern au i would give him a fancyboy lastname he also doesn't use lol. or have him just take cams. there's a whole thing there with the modern au being derrived from the prince au but i dont need to get into it or we'll be here all day

and then came cameron, which was immediately shortened to Cam, and once i had Cam, it was easy to make Sebastian into Seb and Ryden into Ry, like, it's very affectionate and it's coming from Zen and Zen is absolutely what holds them all together, like, they love each other, but it, whether or not Zen believes it, is all about him, like he's the transformative one in their lives.
