Friend a Day | March 14, 2014
Today's Friend a Day is Brad Erickson.
Brad Erickson is an actor, a writer, a comedy performer, a producer, an educator, a puppet maker, and a puppeteer. I first met Brad through some of my other weird, funny friends who were collaborating on projects with him. In the relatively short time I've known Brad he's quickly become one of my favorite people to be around in the whole world.
Brad is a phenomenal person. He works incredibly hard at what ever he is doing but never let's how hard he's working or how focused he is keep him from being thoughtful and aware of the people around him. It's understandable to be so exhausted and so focused on what you're doing, whether it's overtly creative work or something fairly functional, but I've never seen that from Brad and I've heard nothing but stories about his kindness and generosity in stressful situations from countless people who have worked with him. Brad never stops working and he never stops being thoughtful about everyone else in the room.
There are a lot of things to appreciate about Brad. One of my favorite things is how deeply and purely he cares about the art and craft of puppetry. Brad cares about a lot of things and he's really good at a lot of things. He's a great writer, a really funny performer, an excellent producer, and amazingly willing to try out new creative ideas. But he lives and breathes puppetry. He can build them, he can manipulate them, he can make them come to life and he can use them to tells stories in new and interesting ways. I love seeing people get excited about things and I can't get enough of watching people do things they are amazing at. Brad provides numerous opportunities to watch a guy do things he's excellent at doing.
If I had to pick someone to be in a tough situation with I'd happily choose Brad. Of course, I'd prefer to just work on fun projects and enjoy spending time with Brad. And I'm really lucky to know him.
